If left unchecked, the rat population can grow to be staggering. To make sure this doesn't happen, the rat holes will need to be closed. One rat in the home will soon draw in others of its kind. Rats give off pheromones, aromas that lure other rats to a location. If your home is sealed against rats, there is no need to worry about more entering once you have started the trapping process. The rat that is currently in the home will be easily obtained once it is sealed inside. The rat in the wall will most likely have a place it is using for travel. This area is often an attic or crawl space, but any area of the home that is not frequently used by people can be a target zone. Look for signs of the rat's passing like droppings or urine puddles. Outsourcing Modesto Pest Control jobs causes dispute

Whether inmate crews should do more weeding and pick up more litter in public areas - or quit altogether - is at the heart of a bitter outsourcing dispute at Modesto City Hall. Fourteen parks workers could keep their jobs, their union bosses say, if they had increased help from low-cost inmate laborers. The Stanislaus County Pest Control board could not be reached for comment.

City management contends that eliminating the parks maintenance division and hiring a private company would save taxpayers big money and perhaps bring tidier parks. And, no one would be at risk from honor farm workers, city officials say. Most local owners of pest control companies in Modesto, California weren't sure what to make of all this.

"There is no logic in dismantling a high-performing, trained system if there is not substantial savings," said Jim Niskanen, the city's parks director and acting director of public works. He added, "$2.3 million (savings) over five years is substantial." But union leaders are crying foul, saying city management changed the rules long after bids were opened to help a favored company gain an unfair advantage. Modesto pest control is an important part of the local economy, but only a few California companies deal with wild animals.

They claim that parks supervisors ordered rank-and-file workers to do a poor job and were reprimanded for overperforming. That provided city management with a pretext for contracting out the work, union representatives say. The city relies on inmate labor to maintain John Thurman Field and some street medians and soundwalls. Honor farm officers and city parks managers repeatedly reassured union representatives that convict labor was fine and dandy, the union said. There are many types of insects and animals in Modesto, and other California cities, but not all of them are pests after all.
