People oftentimes find orphaned possums and they also consider raising them, finding them as cute pets. However, they are not good as pets, since their attitude is that of the animals in the wild. They will never be a companion just like dogs and cats that depends much on humans to eat, they move on their own to find food and they cannot be as tame as dogs and cats, because they weren't made by the Lord that way. It is just illegal to keep them without a rehab permit and as soon as they are old enough to survive on their own, some healthy possums must be released. They are wild animals who will not do well in captivity. If you will try to mold them to be the kind of pet that you want them to be, that will not be possible at all. It will just bring you a heartbreak.
