We perform full building inspection, do the the repairs and we also offer attic decontamination if necessary. Rats and mice love to live in attics, and can chew wires or leave droppings. Simpsonville Wildlife Tip:
How Do I Get These Squirrels Out of My Attic?
If there are squirrels in your attic the only thing that is on your mind right now is how to get rid of them. These are serious nuisance animals, which can do a lot of damage inside your home. They will get into your insulation, tearing it apart to make a bed. If you have memorabilia, like newspaper clippings, clothing, furniture, or other items you are storing there, you can be sure that these are in jeopardy as well.
This is just the tip of the iceberg. Squirrels are the carriers of a number of diseases, so having them in your home is never good. However, trying to get rid of them is an easy either. If you are faced with squirrels in your attic and want to know how to get rid of them, here are some steps to follow.
How Did He Get In?
The first question to ask yourself is how the animal got into your home in the first place. To answer this question, you will need to do a thorough search around your home, looking for areas where there are loose boards, holes, gaps, rotted areas, or any other areas that would enable the animal to get inside. Once you have located an area, don't stop. There could be more than one, so keep searching to make sure that there are no additional entryways the animal is using.
Once you have located these areas, seal all but one of the entryways. This is done by using a sealant mixed with steel wool. That will keep the squirrel from digging at this area to try to get back in. It might even be a good idea to place a wire mash over the area as an extra preventative measure.
Set Up Your Trap
Your next step is to install an exclusion funnel over the remaining entryway. This is a very simple device that allows the squirrel to get out of your home, but it is not able to get back in.
The best part about this type of trap is that you don't have to do anything at all. Eventually, the squirrel is going to go outside looking for food or water, and then your problem is resolved. However, if you wish to push the process along, you can do so by placing a large lamp or speakers in the attic area. With the attic door closed, so the animal can get into the main part of your home, crank on the light or turn on some loud music and watch the animal race for that exit.
Once it is out, remove the funnel and seal the entryway using the same technique you did and other locations. This should take care of your squirrel problem. However, you want to make sure that you do routine checks around your home to ensure that it does not try to get back in. This should be done at least twice a year.
