I commonly extract dead animal carcasses from homes and property. The very animals that commonly invade houses die inside houses, and when they do, they create a very unpleasant odor as the carcass decays. The successful removal of deceased wildlife definitely requires experience and knowledge of building architecture and animal behavior. I've cut and pried open every nook and cranny imaginable to locate and remove rotting critter bodies. I am the best - I always find the animal, deodorize and decontaminate the area, and seal up the hole I've cut open. If you want to learn more, please read my How To Get Rid of Dead Animals page.

Stinky Dead Rat in The Kitchen - No matter how big an animal lover I am, I have my sympathies with homeowners who are grossed out by the presence of rodents inside their houses. I was once called to provide my services at a sweet old lady’s house who could not figure out where the rotten stench of a dead animal was coming from inside her house. To be honest, even I was stumped after reaching her house because as strong as the smell was, it took me a while to figure out where it originated from.

As is always my first instinct, I first sniffed around the attic and then checked the cupboards, walls and kitchen cabinets. My sniffing led me to the conclusion that the odor did come from the kitchen somewhere and few minutes later, I knew exactly where. It was the area behind the cooking range. I pulled the stove out and felt that the smell grew stronger. The only thing left to do was to remove the rear panel of the range and look inside and there it was – a dead rat, resting on top of the oven wiring.

My guess is that this rat was up to no good. It ran up the stove to feed on the wires but karma got the better of him and he got electrocuted instead. The only challenge in removing its carcass was that it had its teeth stuck on the wires. After safely taking it off the wiring, I followed my usual ritual of wrapping the dead rat in a disposal bag. The old lady turned out to be good company while I worked, as she kept showing me pictures of her late husband. With all her sweetness, I decided to give her a discount and she in turn gave me one of her potted plants as a gift.
