A large Burmese Python snake has a lifespan of more than 25 years and will weigh 100 to 200 pounds. Due to their large size, they may be expensive and dangerous to keep as a pet. This reptile is not recommended for beginner pet owners.
These snakes are usually considered extremely docile compared to other snakes of the same size. Hatchlings are generally nervous after they are first hatched, but with consistent handling, they will easily calm down. Burmese Pythons are aggressive feeders, which can cause a lot of injury to the handling. It is recommended that you have another person available to help you feed your Python if it is over eight feet long.
For a younger Python, a 55 gallon tank is usually sufficient, but as your snake continues to grow it will need to have an enclosure that is larger and stronger. Burmese Pythons are great escape artists, so their housing needs to be incredibly strong and durable. Paper towels and unprinted paper are perfect substrate for their enclosures. It is clean and easy to change and allows the snake owner to easily monitor the health of the reptile.
A dish of fresh water should always be available for the snake to drink. When the snake becomes too big to soak in the water pan, you will need to place them in a tub or pool on a regular basis so that they are able to swim and bath.
Because Burmese Pythons are such great eaters, you will need to make sure that you do not over feed them. This will cause an obese snake. You can start out by feeding them small mice and gradually increase to small rabbits as your Python grows. A Hatchling should be fed one to two times a week, while an adult only needs to be fed once every two weeks.
