A simple question with a simple answer. When it comes to rats, bait doesn’t really matter. I trap rats with lethal snap traps, and I do smear those traps with some peanut butter. I like to think it helps, but the traps would definitely work even without any bait. Honestly, you can use no bait at all, or any kind of bait, but don’t go through the trouble of using something complicated that will require any extra effort than the amount of effort you’re already investing in taking care of your rat problem. With trapping rats, it’s all about trap location and trap placement, bait never being an important part of the equation.
