California is full of wildlife, including snakes, squirrels, raccoons, skunks, opossums, and more. Wildlife removal is a complex field. I recommend professional Petaluma wildlife control services if you want to solve a critter problem legally and correctly. For example, we specialize in animals in the attic, which have broken into the house and almost always have a nest of baby animals. It is necessary to perform correct preventative repairs to keep pest animals a out of your house for good. We perform full building inspection, do the the repairs and we also offer attic decontamination if necessary. Rats and mice love to live in attics, and can chew wires or leave droppings. Some Petaluma animals frequently enter homes, and correct removal is not a simple task.

Petaluma Wildlife Tip:
Getting rid of rats with peppermint oil
It does not matter what kind of problem you have, you can be sure that there are some rather obscure ideas out there on how to resolve any issue. This is especially true when you are talking about ways to get rid of animals.

One of the more common sources of information are related to rats. Because most people are looking for inventive ways to keep rats away from their home, you can be sure that you are going to find a series of remedies that assure you that this is the absolute way to have success.

Peppermint oil is one such example. Many will tell you that the use of this oil is exactly what you need to do to get rats to flee away from your home. The question is does peppermint oil really work to get rid of mice and rats?

For generations, the most common way that people have used to get rid of rats is through the use of either poison or traps. While both of these have proven to be successful, the reality is that each one comes with its issues. Poisons could be swallowed by your children or your own pets, which can cause them to become sick. Traps can be messy, and you can get your own fingers snapped in them. Plus, no one really likes picking up a dead rat to throw away.

Peppermint oil seems like a great alternative. Instead of you having to worry about killing rats in your home at all, you simply place this oil in specific locations and it forces the rats to stay away. At least, that is what they would like you to believe.

The "science" behind this is that rats find the fragrance of the oil to be especially irritating to them. When they come around the peppermint smell, it forces them to flee because it is just too irritating to them.

If this worked, it would be the ideal solution. You get rid of your rat problem, while your house smells like peppermint. Nothing wrong with that!

There are a few problems with this solution. First of all, there is no site that actually provides adequate instructions on how much peppermint oil is needed to be effective. Most explain to dab a little bit of the oil on some cotton balls and leave that in selected places around your home. However, they don't assure you that just a couple of drops works. In addition, the oils wear off after just a couple of days period of time, and you constantly have to replace them.

The other problem associated with this is that you would literally need to place peppermint cotton balls all over your home to have success. You can't be exactly sure what pathway the rats are going to use to get around, so if you place some behind a refrigerator or stove, they may just find another way to gain access into your kitchen. This leaves the use of this oil quite ineffective.
