Pomona, California got its name back in the 1870s from the Roman goddess of fruit. Although, it had no plants at the time, by the 1880s, Pomona was a major citrus growing city in Southern California, often associated with the Inland Empire. Because Pomona is located in Los Angeles County, it is typically no longer considered part of the Inland Empire. Today, the city has a population of close to 150,000 people, making it the 5th largest city in Los Angeles County. Neighboring cities of San Dimas, Claremont, Chino, and Montclair surround Pomona. Although not as popular for fruit production, Pomona is best known for the California State Polytechnic University and their agricultural research facilities. Also, Pomona is home of LA county fairs, where the livestock exhibits are the major attraction. We won't trap any livestock, but we will trap raccoons, squirrels, and opossums. We also service the towns of Bellflower, South Pasadena, and snake removal in Van Nuys, Sierra Madre, West Hills, Hermosa Beach and also animal control in West Hollywood, Sylmar, Lawndale, Alhambra, Mission Hills, Inglewood, La Canada Flintridge, Carson, Santa Clarita, and rat control in Marina Del Rey, La Mirada, Covina, Lomita, Walnutand pest control in Norwalk, Temple City, Duarte, and extermination services in Universal City, Encino, Diamond Bar, Woodland Hills, La Puente, Montebello, Whittier, Baldwin Park, West Covina, Venice, La Verne, Manhattan Beach, Bell, Rosemead, Lancaster, La Crescenta, Pacific Palisades and wild animal services in El Monte, Santa Monica, Calabasas, Canoga Park, Glendora, West Los Angeles, Hawthorne, Azusa, Hacienda Heights, Agoura Hills, Gardena, Lakewood, Llano, Downey, Toluca Lake, Monterey Park, Pasadena, Lynwood, Huntington Parkand wildlife management in Northridge, Reseda, San Pedro, Studio City, Redondo Beach, and rodent removal in Monrovia.

Pomona Wildlife Tip:
How to tell if there is a mouse or rat in the wall -The ability to tell if there is a mouse or rat in the wall depends on your ability to be a good detective. Actually, when it comes to rats and mice, very little detailed attention is needed. Rats do everything bigger and better than mice. Both rodents will cause significant damage to a home, but rats will do it quicker, louder, and on a larger scale. You see far more signs of rats than you will of mice. Droppings will be bean-size and will be in areas where the rat spends its time. Mice will also leave waste where they frequent, but mouse droppings are tiny, barely as large as a grain of rice. Another thing you will see with rats that is not so apparent with mice is the marks left behind from body oils. Rats have very greasy skin, and the oils from their fur leave marks on most surfaces. A home that has grease marks, large-scale destruction, and large droppings is most likely a home that has a rat. Rats will make louder sounds than mice. If a rat is in the wall, you will hear the activities loud and clear.

Pest Control - Invasive Munchie Bugs Spread to Southern California
By University of California-Davis Statewide Integrated Pest Management Program

Establishment and recovery of the wasps appears to be more successful in pristine habitats like ornamental plant nurseries than in citrus groves. It is likely that the pesticides that are applied to citrus for other pests are hindering the parasites. There are many types of insects and animals in Pomona, and other California cities, but not all of them are pests after all.

New species of parasites that attack the weevil eggs were collected from islands in the Caribbean during 2002. These new species appear to be promising when tested under quarantine conditions, and permission from federal agencies to release these species in the field is pending. Pomona pest control is an important part of the local economy, but only a few California companies deal with wild animals.

Studies in Northern CA of natural enemies such as the fungi and parasites will help with California efforts to manage this pest. Although a strong flyer, Diaprepes root Munchie Bugs generally only fly up to 300 yards to find food. The real threat of long distance spread of this pest could come from humans moving infested plants or soil. Most local owners of pest control companies in Pomona, California weren't sure what to make of all this.

Termite is working with other agencies to educate citrus growers, nursery workers and others. Through funding from the EPDRP of the University of California Statewide Integrated Pest Management Program and Center for Invasive Species Research, a team of researchers from the CDFA, the University of California, and the University of Northern CA developed a brochure describing the biology of this pest and the management program used in Northern CA. The Los Angeles County Pest Control board could not be reached for comment.
