Canada is full of wildlife, including snakes, squirrels, raccoons, skunks, opossums, and more. Wildlife removal is a complex field. I recommend professional St. Catharines wildlife control services if you want to solve a critter problem legally and correctly. For example, we specialize in animals in the attic, which have broken into the house and almost always have a nest of baby animals. It is necessary to perform correct preventative repairs to keep pest animals a out of your house for good. We perform full building inspection, do the the repairs and we also offer attic decontamination if necessary. Rats and mice love to live in attics, and can chew wires or leave droppings. Some St. Catharines animals frequently enter homes, and correct removal is not a simple task.

St. Catharines Wildlife Tip:

How well can squirrels climb and jump?

Squirrels are known for its agility and dexterity in climbing up trees and jumping from branch to branch. Basically, they are acrobats.

When on the ground, squirrels run at speeds up to twenty miles per hour and they climb trees at more than half that rate, up to twelve miles per hour. This is because of their back legs that are super strong from being extremely muscular and double jointed. The speed at which they run and climb, easily helps them to escape predators. In addition to trees, squirrels can climb slick poles and even vertical walls. The back feet of squirrels include five toes that can grip unto smooth surfaces. Even if they fall while climbing, they use their bushy tail as a parachute, surviving a drop of up to one hundred feet.

Squirrels can propel themselves from the ground, up into the air, to approximately four to nine feet. When jumping from tree to tree, they can easily clear a space of ten to twenty feet. This is due to their flexible paws and padded feet. Just think, they can jump straight over you and you would never know what happened, even thinking of them jumping over a crowd of humans is hilarious and yet, sort of scary.

Squirrels can climb and jump so well that they are acknowledged as expert rodents. They use their abilities to forage for food, escaping predators and travelling from nest to nest, hiding extra food when they could. You would hardly ever see a squirrel resting in the day. Even though they can live for more than ten years, maybe even up to 15 years while in captivity, they usually only survive for two to four years in the wild. There are over two hundred and fifty species of squirrels and because of their small size, they are easily hunted by larger prey.

With their ability to climb, squirrels make their nests high up in trees, usually with a minimum height of twenty feet from the ground. They usually tend to lay claim on abandoned birds' nests, but they favor naturally hollowed trees. They also build nests on branches that are joined to the tree trunk, for more stability and nests are always made larger and wider than a bird's nest even though they may look similar. Since squirrels can jump from tree to tree, they make several nests along the way. These nests may be used for different situations, sometimes to hide food, for mating, for giving birth and for huddling together with other squirrels during the cold winter season.

Birds migrate during Spring, leaving their nests abandoned for the upcoming winter. This is when you see a large boom in squirrel nesting period. They would strengthen the abandoned birds' nests or build their own, taking up to three days and utilizing up to four hours a day in doing so. Since squirrels are also rodents, you would not want these creatures living anywhere close to your house, but they do make for a fair amount of enjoyable live entertainment when you sit and watch them.
