Florida is full of wildlife, including snakes, squirrels, raccoons, skunks, opossums, and more. Wildlife removal is a complex field. I recommend professional Golden Gate wildlife control services if you want to solve a critter problem legally and correctly. For example, we specialize in animals in the attic, which have broken into the house and almost always have a nest of baby animals. It is necessary to perform correct preventative repairs to keep pest animals a out of your house for good. We perform full building inspection, do the the repairs and we also offer attic decontamination if necessary. Rats and mice love to live in attics, and can chew wires or leave droppings. Some Golden Gate animals frequently enter homes, and correct removal is not a simple task.

County Animal ServicesDOG or CAT: If you need assistance with a domestic animal, such as a dog or a cat, you need to call your local Collier County Animal Control for assistance. They can help you out with issues such as stray dogs, stray cats, vaccinations, licenses, pet adoption, lost pets, and more. If you have a wildlife problem, you can try calling the Collier County animal control, and see what they have to say, but they will certainly not help you with a complex wildlife problem such as critters in your attic. They are a free government agency that helps with dog and cat issues only.

Golden Gate Wildlife Tip:
Do rodents make good pets?

If you are looking for a small but social pet that can exist in a multi-pet family, look at rodents. Here is a list and description of rodents that make great pets.

GERBILS- these people are often described as "hamsters with tails". They are short furred and come in a number of colors. Their heads are a bit broader than hamsters; they have slimmer bodies, and an arched back. They are about eight inches long including their tales. They are very active even during the day, so they are fun to watch, but they do not like to be handled. They are social, and would like to live with their own kind.

GUINEA PIGS- (Cavies) These guys are so cute; they are about 2 pound when grown with scruffy fur, roundish bodies, and roman noses. They come in a variety of colors, and hair lengths. They like to be held, are very social, and very vocal. They also like to live with their own kind (if you do not want litters you had better get the same sex!) There are about 17 different varieties of guinea pigs recognized in the U.S.

HAMSTERS- (Syrian Hamsters) these are one of the more popular rodents around. These little fur balls are cute but are nocturnal so they are more active at night. They must be handled as babies to be handled as adults. They come in a variety of colors, range from 3- 6 inches long, and prefer to live alone.

MICE-these little guys range from 4-6 inches (including the tail), come in almost every color, and make excellent pets. If handled when they are young, they are young they will enjoy being touched when grown. They are also trainable. Females live well together, but males tend to fight.

RATS- these are a highly intelligent rodents that can be trained and makes an excellent pet if socialized from an early age. Although they are naturally nocturnal, you can train them to be awake in the day. Make sure your rat has plenty of toys to keep from getting board when he is alone. They are about 10 inches long including the tail, and come in many colors. Females live together well, but males will only live with other males they are raised with.

There are other types of rodents that people have tried to domesticate, but this list represents the most common. Remember before adopting any pet you need to be willing to provide them with affection, attention, and care. Every living creature need to have their basic needs met- food, water, exercise, care, and companionship.
