Florida is full of wildlife, including snakes, squirrels, raccoons, skunks, opossums, and more. Wildlife removal is a complex field. I recommend professional Key Largo wildlife control services if you want to solve a critter problem legally and correctly. For example, we specialize in animals in the attic, which have broken into the house and almost always have a nest of baby animals. It is necessary to perform correct preventative repairs to keep pest animals a out of your house for good. We perform full building inspection, do the the repairs and we also offer attic decontamination if necessary. Rats and mice love to live in attics, and can chew wires or leave droppings. Some Key Largo animals frequently enter homes, and correct removal is not a simple task.

Key Largo Wildlife Tip:
How do I know if there are baby raccoons in the attic?

Raccoons may look cute but wait until you see how much damage they can do. There are a few indicators that will tell you if raccoons have invaded and taken over your attic. Female raccoons usually leave the wild in order to give birth to her young. They usually choose abandoned dens and attics because they can have the maximum warmth that they are looking for in those places.

Signs that Baby Raccoons are in the Attic

The most obvious sign is when you see one. They generally look like small furry puppies. If you suspect that they are not abandoned, don't touch them. Female raccoons can forage for food for hours and can return in the evenings. Raccoons are rampant in North America during winter. In the Southern part of America, female raccoons can breed during Springtime.

If you spot a raccoon that has protruding nipples, chances are there are babies nearby. Females do not usually go far when hunting for food. Before birth, they choose dens or nests that have plenty of food source nearby. If a nipple is sticking out, make sure to check every nook and cranny for possible litters.

Scratching Noises. A raccoon can thump and scratch more heavily than squirrels and rats. They scratch a lot especially after giving birth to their babies. A scurrying or a rustling sound can be an indicator that you have raccoons as a neighbor. They will attempt to gain entry points through small openings. You can hear loud sounds, especially during the night because raccoons are nocturnal animals.

They make a lot of noises. Baby raccoons can make a chittering sound which is very distinctive from the purring of your pet cat. When crying, they make a twittering sound that sounds like a bird. They also make a combination of sound including screeches, chitters, vibrations and warbles.

Raccoons originally make their dens on top of trees. They choose the hollowed part because it can be safer to raise their young up there. However, as suburban areas began to develop, they discovered that they can easily go inside attics, through uncovered chimneys. They found out that attics can offer them the perfect condition. They don't have to burden themselves with additional duties such as collecting twigs for their nests. Female raccoons are also safe in the attic as they are not discovered easily by male raccoons. If a male raccoon wants to mate, he will kill litters that are not his.

What to do

Contact a professional when you see a litter of raccoons. A female raccoon can get defensive and might bite or scratch you if you are not careful. A professional has the right tools and knows the proper way of getting rid of raccoons inside your house. You also have to make sure that the female won't leave their babies alone. It is cruel and inhumane to let the baby raccoons starve slowly.
