Why do opossums play dead?

This is known as to play dead.

What is Playing Dead

This is a thing most common in opossums. It is a response which they make when they get feared to face situations which lead to shock. This shock induces a condition of comatose that last for 40 minutes to 4 hours. In this state, their body is generally limp. Their front feet get converted into balls. Even they start drooling.
