Missouri is full of wildlife, including snakes, squirrels, raccoons, skunks, opossums, and more. Wildlife removal is a complex field. I recommend professional St Peters wildlife control services if you want to solve a critter problem legally and correctly. For example, we specialize in animals in the attic, which have broken into the house and almost always have a nest of baby animals. It is necessary to perform correct preventative repairs to keep pest animals a out of your house for good. We perform full building inspection, do the the repairs and we also offer attic decontamination if necessary. Rats and mice love to live in attics, and can chew wires or leave droppings. Some St Peters animals frequently enter homes, and correct removal is not a simple task.

St Peters Wildlife Tip:
Do skunks hibernate in the winter?

Do you ever wonder if skunks hibernate in the winter season? Yes. But with striped skunks, they do not necessarily hibernate in the winter season. They also are likely to slow down. Especially in the coldest winter season, they just choose to sleep in their dens. They also are often noticed to eat a little, be inactive and sleep more. They mainly enter a state of what is called as "torpor". This is when their metabolism, body temperature and breathing drop. But, this is not exactly the same as with hibernation.

Skunks Eat and Wake Up Periodically

As they fall in their good sleep, they also wake up periodically. The weather will usually be above thirty degree Fahrenheit. They will also often leave their den for nighttime foraging. They will also eat something which includes a normal food. But, it will often be more difficult for them to find this food during the winter season. They will also leave their den once during the winter and will empty their so-called scent glands.

In regard with the live food they hunt, it usually includes eggs, insects, earthworms, snakes, frogs and small animals. They will also look for leaves, roots, berries, nuts and grasses. The garbage thrown by people in the trash cans will also usually be their main source of food. This is why they often get in trouble with humans. They dig holes in the gardens, yards and lawns.

A Den that is Crowded is Cozy for Them

That ground burrow is what is called as skunk den. This is actually consisted of five openings. It is when a skunk takes over a fox burrow or a ground hog. It may also be seen digging its own. It will den under the buildings, or in the hollow logs. Inside, you will see 1 to 3 separate chambers. Now, one of the chambers will be utilized as a nest.

Skunks Re-Use Their Dens during the Winter Season

Skunks often re-use their dens during the winter season. And, they are considered as a solitary animal. In the winter season, they also den together. With males, they den alone and they sometimes join the females. Their body heat shared will help them to survive during the winter season. It is through this winter period of waking and sleeping that lasts for about one-hundred days that you will learn skunks are different. After the winter, the season for spring mating begins.
