New Braunfels Wildlife Tip:
Problems caused by Armadillo digging
We have come to realise that armadillos dig holes for several reasons and we have also come to know that these frequent diggings are not welcomed by most people. This is if the diggings are done on someone's yard. The digging done by armadillos cause several problems and this is why people go through the hardships of having to remove these armadillos from their yards. Some people hire experts to remove these armadillos for them.
There are several effects of these diggings done by armadillos. The holes can be big or small, depending on the size of the armadillo. Bigger holes have drastic effects while many small holes have the same effects as big ones. It is important to find an armadillo on your yard as soon as possible before it digs up many holes that could cause extensive damage.
Here are some of the problems that Armadillo's cause by digging:
- Destruction of vegetation/ Gardens/ Flowerings
- Compromising foundations of buildings
- Spoiling landscape
- Destruction of pipes in the ground
- Holes can be used by other small animals
- Cracking of walls with holes underneath
The points are explained below.
Constant digging of holes all over the yard destroys the vegetation contained in the yard. Flowers and other important plants may be damaged due to the presence of the holes. The holes alter the balance of the plants. The Armadillo uproots plants with aims of getting small organisms to eat. They also uproot plants whose fruits grown underneath the ground. The vegetation might have required plenty of money to set up and destroying it means producing more money to have it fixed.
Compromising building foundations- Buildings are built from the ground going up. An armadillo might dig holes under the foundation of a building. A foundation is very important since it is what keeps all parts of the building stable. Compromising this might be very dangerous to people who operate in those buildings as they might disintegrate since the foundation had been altered with.
Spoiling the landscape-Beautiful scenery or landscape might be spoiled when an armadillo digs holes all over the terrain. The terrain may be used to attract tourists or for some business purpose. It the landscape is spoiled, it might not be suitable for business anymore.
Destruction of pipes in the ground- Water pipes may be destroyed after they are exposed by the holes that are dug by armadillos. The water might start to leak causing a ripple in distribution of water. Fibre Optic tubes are also located in the ground. They can be destroyed if an armadillo digs a hole and exposes them.
Other animals might also take advantage of the pathways created by armadillos to make their way into your yard or house.
Walls may crack if holes are dug underneath since the pressure would be too much if there is no soil underneath to withstand the pressure.
