Texas is full of wildlife, including snakes, squirrels, raccoons, skunks, opossums, and more. Wildlife removal is a complex field. I recommend professional Richardson wildlife control services if you want to solve a critter problem legally and correctly. For example, we specialize in animals in the attic, which have broken into the house and almost always have a nest of baby animals. It is necessary to perform correct preventative repairs to keep pest animals a out of your house for good. We perform full building inspection, do the the repairs and we also offer attic decontamination if necessary. Rats and mice love to live in attics, and can chew wires or leave droppings. Some Richardson animals frequently enter homes, and correct removal is not a simple task.

Richardson Wildlife Tip:

How Big Do Mice Get?

There are a lot of common rodents that live comfortably with humans. An example of such rodent is the house mice. These tiny mammals are present in many homes across the globe. They differ from their cousin the rat but can easily be confused with it due to their seemingly striking resemblance. However, the house mice are smaller than the rat with a length of up to 20cm from head to tail of adult mice.

Another distinguishing factor of the mice from the rat is in the color of their skin. The bellies of mice have a lighter color that differs from the rest of its body while the rat has a generally uniform color.

How big can mice get? First and foremost, there are up to a hundred different types of mice and they can each grow to reach different sizes depending on several factors. One of such factor is the environment they live in, mice that stay in industrial areas or homes with a lot of access to food and comfortable habitation will grow larger than mice in an environment with less food.

Some example of mice includes the house mouse, wood mouse, field mouse, zebra mouse, spiny mouse, and the deer mouse. Most adult mice can reach a length of 10 inches, their weight vary from between twenty to forty gram. The smallest variety of mice is the African Pygmy with a size measurement of up to nine inches in length and a weight of ten grams.

The house mouse is restricted to just living in houses, or industrial environment, they do not fare well in the field or woods. If they have direct access to food, they can overfeed and breed quickly which makes it difficult to completely get rid of them from around the neighbourhood. Mice feed on leftovers and only need to eat 10% of their body weight daily to maintain a steady growth.

The house mouse can be found in any part of the house, the sitting room and kitchen are not exempted. But they can be mostly found in the basement, garage, and on the roof. Getting rid of the house mouse completely from the house can be a bit of a stress, but by keeping the surrounding clean and tidy after a complete extermination of the house from rodents can be highly rewarding. It is also important to seal all openings in the wall and block all the spaces beneath the doors to keep them out of the house.

The field mouse is usually restricted to the field, but they have been known to cohabit with humans during extreme winter weather. They also have access to food in the wild and as a result can grow to reach a length of 10 centimetres and a weight of 25 grams for males and 20 grams for females. Another variety of the field mouse that is popular among rural areas and notable for biting on electrical wires can grow to reach a length of 12 centimetres and weigh up to 45 grams.
