Virginia is full of wildlife, including snakes, squirrels, raccoons, skunks, opossums, and more. Wildlife removal is a complex field. I recommend professional Springfield wildlife control services if you want to solve a critter problem legally and correctly. For example, we specialize in animals in the attic, which have broken into the house and almost always have a nest of baby animals. It is necessary to perform correct preventative repairs to keep pest animals a out of your house for good. We perform full building inspection, do the the repairs and we also offer attic decontamination if necessary. Rats and mice love to live in attics, and can chew wires or leave droppings. Some Springfield animals frequently enter homes, and correct removal is not a simple task.

County Animal ServicesDOG or CAT: If you need assistance with a domestic animal, such as a dog or a cat, you need to call your local Fairfax County Animal Control for assistance. They can help you out with issues such as stray dogs, stray cats, vaccinations, licenses, pet adoption, lost pets, and more. If you have a wildlife problem, you can try calling the Fairfax County animal control, and see what they have to say, but they will certainly not help you with a complex wildlife problem such as critters in your attic. They are a free government agency that helps with dog and cat issues only.

Springfield Wildlife Tip:
Skunk Poop Vs Raccoon Poop
Anywhere humans live, pests live too. Pest could mean an array of beings from insects to birds to mammals and what not. The big question is, how do you identify the animal based on the poop?

In this article we will be talking about how to identify the animal, skunk or raccoon based on the poop analysis. Sounds funny, right?

Both skunk and raccoons are nocturnal animals, and are active mostly during the night. Sometimes, you may not spot the animal right away, but spotting the poop might help you identify the animal, if you know what signs to watch out for.

Skunk poop:
The droppings of the skunk usually look like those of the cat family. These are typically found in locations such as the garden, patio, lawn, etc. The excreta is in a tubular form and has blunt ends. If you measure it, it is anywhere between a quarter to half an inch long in diameter and might measure between one and two inches in length, though it can be a few centimeters longer at times. The poop when examined closely, will show the presence of twine, seeds of fruits and berries, fur, wool and feathers, etc.

Raccoon poop:
Raccoon poop is also blunt ended just like the skunk poop, but the differentiating factor is that this is slightly larger. The raccoon poop measures a larger two to three inches, but is smaller in terms of diameter, measuring around half an inch. Also, when skunk poop is compared with raccoon poop, raccoon poop is usually of darker shades.

The most common areas or locations where you find raccoon poop are – tree stumps, large rocks, piles of wood and sticks, attics, garages, patios, etc. These locations are shared by the community of the residing raccoons and are hence known as latrines.

Raccoon excreta contains eggs and spores of many harmful pathogen such as round worm, ring worm, etc. These spores and eggs are highly viable and will immediately spring in to life once it comes in contact with humans. People who are the most susceptible to this are especially young children, who play in the sand and lawn and old people who do not have a strong immunity.

Be it raccoon poop or skunk poop, it is very unclean and hazardous, more than you imagine it to be.

So if you ever find the poop of either of these, make sure you track down the animal or its communities (they usually have babies accompanying them) and get them removed from the vicinity of your house.

Some harmful spores they contain may be transmitted through air current once the excreta dries and loses its fluidity. It can be harmful to the occupants of the house. Also if you intend to clean up, make sure that you use protective masks and gloves, so that you do not take any risk of contracting diseases. If you are unsure about what to do, or how to go about it, call in a professional at the earliest.
