Roosting Bats in the Attic - If you find a bat colony taking up space in your garage, basement, attic, chimney or walls, you will need to safely remove them. The easiest process of removing bats is by contacting a professional service. They are well equipped to handle the process of locating their entry point and assisting the bats with leaving. However, if you are interested in removing the bats yourself, you should know that the process can be complex.

You first need to discover how the bats are getting in. This is usually not easy because bats are able to get in through openings as small as 3/8 of an inch. It may be difficult to find all of the holes that are allowing bats to get in. Once you have determined where they enter you are able to install an easy one way device. This allows bats to fly out, but not back in.

From the opening that they have chosen, they are able to crawl into their roosting place. They are interested in spaces that are dark, small and dry. This makes attics and crawl spaces the perfect location for them. Bats will usually remain in your attic all year round if it is warm enough. If not, they may migrate during the colder months. However, they will usually return. If you find that the bats have left during colder months, you will have an opportunity to seal up your home with caulk, brick, stone, insulation, or cement.

If you are not fearful of bats, you may want to consider installing a bat house in the backyard for bats to continue to roost and control the insects in your yard. Bats are able to eat more than 3000 mosquitos, moths and flies in one evening. This allows a new home for bats and less bug bites for people.
