An apartment told me to catch this hen.

In my job as a wildlife control operator, I usually deal with the same 8 types of animals: raccoons, squirrels, rats, opossums, armadillos, snakes, bats, and birds. However, from time to time I get a chance to handle an uncommon species. I really relish these jobs. The above photos are all of animals that I don't usually handle. If you want to learn more, please read my How To Get Rid of Other Wildlife page.

The day I caught a guinea hen - This is one of my favorite stories, not because I did something heroic but because I got a chance to work on a very unique animal – a guinea hen. Also known as the guinea fowl, this bird’s original habitat is Africa but it has been introduced in other places like France, West Indies and the United States over the years. So I could not believe my luck when one of these beauties started living in the staircase of an apartment complex where I go every now and then for rodent removal.

One thing that I knew for sure was that this guinea hen was someone’s pet. It is not every day that you come across one of these on the streets of Florida. It either escaped out of there or was let go accidentally. Whatever the case was, it was now happily settled on the staircase and was unwilling to budge even though the maintenance department of the building tried their best to capture it. Finally when they realize that the job is best left to a professional (aka me), I was called on to help.

At first I tried to approach it with a net but this was one smart bird. It realized that I was going to catch and was about to escape before I backed off. I tried again after a few minutes, this time keeping it low profile by keeping the net aside and just strolling past the bird casually. Once I got close to it, I grabbed the bird tight and carried it into the net, although I have to give it credit for fighting back as hard as it could. Once done, I brought it home and kept it there for a few weeks before I grew sick of the mess it had started creating in my lawn and on my truck. Eventually, I called the wildlife conservation and asked them to take the bird away. Whew!

AAAnimal Control is a privately owned wildlife removal and pest control business, located in Orlando Florida. I deal strictly with wild animals including ones that have died inside houses. I am not an extermination company, but a critter removal and control specialist. The above photos are some of the many that I've taken in the field over my years of work. Please email me if you have any questions about the above photographs, or any questions about wildlife problems or Florida wildlife removal issues.
