Connecticut is full of wildlife, including snakes, squirrels, raccoons, skunks, opossums, and more. Wildlife removal is a complex field. I recommend professional Wallingford wildlife control services if you want to solve a critter problem legally and correctly. For example, we specialize in animals in the attic, which have broken into the house and almost always have a nest of baby animals. It is necessary to perform correct preventative repairs to keep pest animals a out of your house for good. We perform full building inspection, do the the repairs and we also offer attic decontamination if necessary. Rats and mice love to live in attics, and can chew wires or leave droppings. Some Wallingford animals frequently enter homes, and correct removal is not a simple task.

Wallingford Wildlife Tip:

How to trap a chipmunk

Chipmunks may look cute but once they start to dig and burrow under your landscape and garden, they become a real nuisance. One way to get rid of them is by trapping them. There are a number of different kinds of traps that you can use to trap and get rid of chipmunks. Here is a look at how you can trap a chipmunk.

Use a live trap

Start by purchasing a live trap. Next, put some sunflower seeds or peanuts around your trap to get them into the trap. Once the chipmunk has been trapped, you can remove them someplace where the municipality animal control ordinance tells you it is safe to do so.

Use a bucket filled with water

Another way to trap a chipmunk is by using a bucket that is only half full of water. Take a wooden plank and lean it against one side of the bucket and then put some sunflower seeds on the plank and in the wat as well as around the bucket. Once the chipmunk starts to eat the seeds it will soon fall into the bucket and drown.

Use a mousetrap

You can also trap a chipmunk by using a mousetrap. For this, you will need to spread some peanut butter mixed with oatmeal and then you need to place the mixture inside the trap. This method is however not very humane because the trap will kill the chipmunk but it is a quick way to get rid of them. When disposing off the body, make sure you comply with the local municipal laws.

Which trap size is the best?

When the time comes to pick a suitable chipmunk trap, try to go with one that is between ten and twenty inches long. A small trap also normally has a small mesh opening which does not allow the chipmunk to exit the trap. There are both one and two-door traps that you can pick and choose from. The one-door trap is mostly used by professionals and is best as far as placing the bait goes. The dual entry trap will catch more chipmunks and you can also see through the trap. It can be set with either one or both doors open.

Place the trap at the right place

Before you start trapping chipmunks, you need to ensure you place the trap properly. There are several places where you can place the trap including attics or sheds, along walls or fences, underneath your structure, in chipmunk burrows as well as below trees and near a brush. Placing the trap near a wall or fence works well because that is where chipmunks normally travel to get into your property.

Use the right bait

The second thing you need to do is learn to select and place the right kind of bait. Use baits that chipmunks cannot steal and make sure the bait is properly positioned. Next, set your trap. For this you may need to follow the instructions of your trap. Make sure you check your trap frequently and wear gloves to avoid any contact with the trapped chipmunk. Finally, to get best results when trapping a chipmunk, make sure you clean up all attractants.
