Iowa is full of wildlife, including snakes, squirrels, raccoons, skunks, opossums, and more. Wildlife removal is a complex field. I recommend professional Tipton wildlife control services if you want to solve a critter problem legally and correctly. For example, we specialize in animals in the attic, which have broken into the house and almost always have a nest of baby animals. It is necessary to perform correct preventative repairs to keep pest animals a out of your house for good. We perform full building inspection, do the the repairs and we also offer attic decontamination if necessary. Rats and mice love to live in attics, and can chew wires or leave droppings. Some Tipton animals frequently enter homes, and correct removal is not a simple task.
DOG or CAT: If you need assistance with a domestic animal, such as a dog or a cat, you need to call your local
Cedar County Animal Control
for assistance. They can help you out with issues such as stray dogs, stray cats, vaccinations, licenses,
pet adoption, lost pets, and more. If you have a wildlife problem, you can try calling the Cedar County animal control, and see what they have to
say, but they will certainly not help you with a complex wildlife problem such as critters in your attic. They are a free government agency that
helps with dog and cat issues only.

Tipton Wildlife Tip:
How To Trap A Gopher?
Living in an area with mass of land, gophers are one of the many pests to expect. Normally, they are not seen and this is because they are mostly under the ground digging up tunnels. These tunnels are called "Gopher Mounds". Mostly it is said to leave the capturing of gophers to rage professionals because it is a task an ordinary person may not be able to accomplish. This is untrue and we have drafted a few steps to help in the capturing of these pests.
ITEMS YOU NEED
- Shovels
- Gopher traps
- Leather hand gloves unless you do not mind physical contact with the animal
- Chain or wire
- Use a stake to hold the trap in place
- Paper, cardboard or any material to cover the hole.
- Wooden dowels to help find the tunnels (this is optional)
Finding Fresh Mounds Created by Gophers:
In trapping a gopher, it is best to look for fresh mounds. One should not waste time in old tunnels because these pests often times go about creating new ones. It is best to walk tge perimeter of you property every so often so as to notice any new mound. In the case where there is rainfall, it would be impossible to tell the difference between new and old. A new mound should look like;
- Pushed over grass
- Wet dirt or mud
- A mound in the yard where you know you did not put it.
Find Where the Tunnel(s) are:
This is often times the hard part as it can take a lot of digging and sometimes, the tunnels would not be found. These tunnels are often a foot deep in the ground, sometimes two. These gophers do not care about their mounds at all. They are more interested in the tunnel, the mound is just where they pour the dirt they removed from their path. Use the rebar stick and push into the hole in the ground, if its one feet, then that's a valid tunnel.
Dig a Larger Hole Around the Tunnel:
Create a bigger hole and clean it out. Gophers tend to back fill when they are creating tunnels. You can use this tunnel to find out where a gopher stopped backfilling. Keep in mind that under a mound, there are always two tunnels and a mound neither represents the beginning or the end of one. It is somewhere in the middle.
Uncover the Tunnels:
This is the part that requires the use of leather gloves. Gophers have sharp teeth and you just might run into them. There are also other things you might not want your hands to touch in the tunnel which is inclusive of fecal matter. Once you have found the tunnel, clear all the dirt from inside it.
Fill up the hole you created:
With the dirt extracted from the mounds, fill up the hole you created so much so that it is on the same level with the mound but not covering it. In doing this, caution is required as gophers have great hearing and you would not want to spook them.
Place the trap in the mound:
This is the easy part, just place the trap inside so the gopher has to crawl all over it to get on its way. The trap would do the rest.
