I recommend professional Bossier wildlife control services if you want to solve a critter problem legally and correctly. For example, we specialize in animals in the attic, which have broken into the house and almost always have a nest of baby animals. It is necessary to perform correct preventative repairs to keep pest animals a out of your house for good. We perform full building inspection, do the the repairs and we also offer attic decontamination if necessary. Rats and mice love to live in attics, and can chew wires or leave droppings. Bossier Wildlife Tip:
How To Trap A Gopher
When you have identified the rodents attacking your garden as gophers, then you should not panic are despair since there exists many ways in which you can control rodents. These ways include;
1. Exclusion.
2. Use of repellents.
3. Use of ultrasonic devices.
4. Trapping.
In this article, we will be discussing the use of traps to catch these cunning animals. These animals are very private animals and therefore, most of the traps work best when placed somewhere very close to the open mounds of a gopher whole. This is all simple since gophers do not stray too far from their mounds.
There are different types of traps available. There are two types of traps, namely;
1. live traps
2. Kill traps.
Traps are there in many forms with each having a pretty satisfied bunch of diehard fans. Trapping a gopher is very easy. Here are a few steps used to ensure success in trapping one.
Step 1; Find a fresh mound (fresh activity).
This can sometimes prove to be very difficult. Some of the ways used here include;
1. Flattening all mounds in the evening, then checking the next morning- Active mounds will be having fresh mounds of soil on them, indicating recent gopher activity.
2. Spotting new mounds in places where you are sure there was no mound earlier, like the previous day.
3. Pushed over grass or wet dirt.
Step 2; Determine where the main tunnels are.
Mostly, the mounds are just there as breathing spots and not at the main tunnel which has more gopher activity and higher chance of catching a gopher and fast. When you find a mound, then you should be able to find a tunnel close by digging all around the mound to find a small tunnel which should lead you to the main tunnel eventually.
Step 3; Place the trap.
Placing the trap somewhere requires that one is fairly certain that gophers will probably be venturing there very soon, otherwise, it would be a form of decoration since sometimes the traps do not catch anything if they are placed just anywhere. That is why it is essential to spot new mounds to confirm presence of fresh activity and increase chances of success. The traps are best placed inconspicuously at the openings of the gophers' holes. or in the main tunnels where they could be placed and the tunnels covered again to avoid gophers noticing that tampering has happened.
Step 4; Waiting.
This step's effectiveness and shortness depends utterly on the level of expertise and precision used in executing the previous steps and the level of activity of the gophers. It should be somewhere between waiting for a minute to waiting for several hours.
If all is well, assuming that your trap was not a kill-trap, (since that is what I like to imagine you are using) then you will soon be having your rodent in the trap and also busy deciding what to do with the troublemaker. I suggest that you make sure that whatever you decide is humane and is never to take the poor animal's life.
