Louisiana is full of wildlife, including snakes, squirrels, raccoons, skunks, opossums, and more. Wildlife removal is a complex field. I recommend professional Covington wildlife control services if you want to solve a critter problem legally and correctly. For example, we specialize in animals in the attic, which have broken into the house and almost always have a nest of baby animals. It is necessary to perform correct preventative repairs to keep pest animals a out of your house for good. We perform full building inspection, do the the repairs and we also offer attic decontamination if necessary. Rats and mice love to live in attics, and can chew wires or leave droppings. Some Covington animals frequently enter homes, and correct removal is not a simple task.

County Animal ServicesDOG or CAT: If you need assistance with a domestic animal, such as a dog or a cat, you need to call your local St. Tammany Parish Animal Control for assistance. They can help you out with issues such as stray dogs, stray cats, vaccinations, licenses, pet adoption, lost pets, and more. If you have a wildlife problem, you can try calling the St. Tammany Parish animal control, and see what they have to say, but they will certainly not help you with a complex wildlife problem such as critters in your attic. They are a free government agency that helps with dog and cat issues only.

Covington Wildlife Tip:
What should I do if I find a nest of rats in the attic?

Many times, rats will find their way into houses through tiny holes and crevices inn the walls of the house. Mostly, they will inhabit dark, rarely disturbed places like attics. Here, rats will build nests from pieces of chewed cardboard, torn clothes and other rags, grass and sometimes fur from their own bodies. Location of the nest can sometimes be hard, since it is mostly well hidden under piles of other stuff where it cannot be touched, but the real headache kicks in when one finds a nest of rats' in his or her house.

WHAT TO DO WHEN YOU LOCATE THE NEST

If one finds the nest, it is imperative to determine whether the nest already has baby rats or not. Rats are extremely prolific animals. They reproduce at a baffling rate with an average of ten babies per litter. If one finds that the nest already has babies, the following would suffice to be done.

1. Carefully inspect the exterior and interior of your house to determine possible entry and exit points of the rats nesting inn your house. These should then be sealed with steel to either lock out the mother rat, or prevent her foraging out of the house for food. If the rats have not found their way into the kitchens and storerooms where one keeps food, you will probably have them dead from starvation.
2. Set up traps in the attic, especially along the rat pathways which are found mostly along the walls. Snap traps are highly advised since they are effective and kill extremely fast when triggered. These should be placed parallel to the wall.
3. Even though the snap traps will catch moving rats, the baby rats will probably escape capture because they expressly depend on lactation from the mother. If they don't die of starvation, which would obviously lead to a foul smell in your attic, it is important that one finds a quick and possibly humane way of killing them. Asphyxiation is difficult to use, but it's the quickest method.

WHAT NEXT AFTER THE RATS HAVE BEEN KILLED?

Past the killing, the attic will need to be decontaminated and disinfected. The nest will also need to be disposed of safely. For this to be successful without mishaps, the use of protective gloves and face mask to prevent breathing in of dusts rising from rat urine and feces is a must.

CONCLUSION

Rat nests are a disturbing sight in your house. The presence of rats in your house too is highly disturbing. Nests need to be located quickly and disposed of to return the household to the much needed comfort that home ought to be.
