Rats are like any other living being, hence they get sick too. They are usually prone to respiratory infections and would require some form of medication to aid them in breathing and in recovery. Other than breathing problems, they also can be infected by parasites which can also become severe with time. To check if the rat is sick or not, you can find out the symptoms of a sick rat.

A rat's rose is supposed to be dry, so if your rat has a wet nose then there may be a case of respiratory infection. The reason behind this is store bought bedding. If you have recently bought store bedding, then it may contain a large amount of dust that would have led to the respiratory problems.

Also there are a lot of symptoms that can be seen in the rat that are no different than that of humans. Some telling signs of the illness could be the shift in weights, crimson colour appearing by nose and eyes, reduced appetite, crouching over, rats having excessively long teeth, rats sleeping at immoderate times, exhaustion, diarrhoea, nasal discharge, breathing problems, and unexplained bleeding.
