If You See a Raccoon in the Daytime, Is It Rabid?

Raccoons are nocturnal critters. because of their terrible eyesight, they would be in a great deal of trouble if they were out during the daytime. Potential predators would have a clear advantage over them, and this is why they forage for food during the dark hours.

However, there is an instance where a raccoon will be out during the daytime. This is when the animal has some type of severe injury or illness, which may make you wonder if you see a raccoon in the daytime if it is rabid?

The Odds Are Good

Because raccoons avoid being out in the daytime, the only reason it would be out would be if it has some type of issue with its brain, either through disease or injury. The natural instinct of this animal is to avoid being out during the daytime, so that instinct must have been compromised.

While you cannot be absolutely certain that it is rabies that has caused it to act irrationally, that is one of the indicators. A rabid raccoon could very well be out during the daytime, so there is a good possibility that this is the problem.

Are There Other Signs?
