Pennsylvania is full of wildlife, including snakes, squirrels, raccoons, skunks, opossums, and more. Wildlife removal is a complex field. I recommend professional Penn Hills wildlife control services if you want to solve a critter problem legally and correctly. For example, we specialize in animals in the attic, which have broken into the house and almost always have a nest of baby animals. It is necessary to perform correct preventative repairs to keep pest animals a out of your house for good. We perform full building inspection, do the the repairs and we also offer attic decontamination if necessary. Rats and mice love to live in attics, and can chew wires or leave droppings. Some Penn Hills animals frequently enter homes, and correct removal is not a simple task.
DOG or CAT: If you need assistance with a domestic animal, such as a dog or a cat, you need to call your local
Allegheny County Animal Control
for assistance. They can help you out with issues such as stray dogs, stray cats, vaccinations, licenses,
pet adoption, lost pets, and more. If you have a wildlife problem, you can try calling the Allegheny County animal control, and see what they have to
say, but they will certainly not help you with a complex wildlife problem such as critters in your attic. They are a free government agency that
helps with dog and cat issues only.

Penn Hills Wildlife Tip:
Do mothballs or ammonia help repel rats?
In response to the ever present rat menace that many people constantly face in their homes, work places and even gardens, a number of ways have been devised in an attempt to keep these annoying creatures away from human beings. Some of these methods include rat repellents, for instance ammonia and mothballs. Unfortunately most of these repellents do not do the work they claim to do.
Mothballs are a known chemical pesticide that, as the name suggests, is used to keep moths out of clothes storage to prevent them from boring holes in the clothes. These balls are sometimes also referred to as naphthalene balls. Their chemical composition gives them a pungent smell that is often said to be irritating to animals and insects. While this smell may be toxic enough to work on moths, the same is not replicated on rats.
When it comes to rats, the mothballs may only cause them harm only for a period of time. One of the effects of these mothballs on rats is cataracts and sometimes retinal hemorrhage in the case where the exposure to the chemicals is too much. The catch here is that if the exposure to the chemicals is too much it will also affect human beings in that environment and cause health problems such as anemia in some instances.
Ammonia on the other hand is also a pungent smelling gas that produces an alkaline solution when dissolved in water. It is mostly used in the making of cleaning solutions. Having this solution on a piece of cloth left in a location where rats are most likely hiding will expose the rats to as much of the chemical as possible.
Unfortunately, this method of repelling rats does not work either. This is because there are very minimal effects of the chemical on the rats, at least physically.
Ammonia mimics the smell of fox or cat urine, both of which are predators to rats. Rats will think that the ammonia means that they are at risk of falling into predator hands. This will only work for a short period of time because the rats will soon get used to the smell and notice that these alleged predators are nowhere nearby.
Rats are somewhat intelligent in their own way. This is why they are sometimes able to avoid traps and potentially dangerous situations. These chemicals are also known to have very little effects on the health of the rats. This is why they may not be the best or most efficient methods to get rid of a rat infestation.
It is important to engage the services of a pest control professional in case you have a rat problem in your home. This is because they have better methods that are even more efficient and that will work well the first time. Exposing yourself and your household may only go on to work against you as these chemicals affect human beings quite differently and can make your life uncomfortable too.
