Pennsylvania is full of wildlife, including snakes, squirrels, raccoons, skunks, opossums, and more. Wildlife removal is a complex field. I recommend professional Ross Township wildlife control services if you want to solve a critter problem legally and correctly. For example, we specialize in animals in the attic, which have broken into the house and almost always have a nest of baby animals. It is necessary to perform correct preventative repairs to keep pest animals a out of your house for good. We perform full building inspection, do the the repairs and we also offer attic decontamination if necessary. Rats and mice love to live in attics, and can chew wires or leave droppings. Some Ross Township animals frequently enter homes, and correct removal is not a simple task.

If you have a wildlife problem, you can try calling the Allegheny County animal control, and see what they have to say, but they will certainly not help you with a complex wildlife problem such as critters in your attic. Ross Township Wildlife Tip:

Are bats blind?

As blind as bat, or so they say. This is one of the most untruthful phrases to have ever been coined. In fact, scientists frown with disdain at the originators of this phrase that they consider to be quite ignorant from their perspective. The myth that bats cannot see is in fact just a myth. This is because bats can see just as well as you and I can, some even better than we ever could.

While most bats use sonar vibrations known as echolocation to navigate, there are species of bats, the fruit bats for instance, that do not use echolocation at all. These types of bats are left only with the option to use their vision to navigate. Interestingly, these bats are able to even see light that is outside of our human abilities to see through using our naked eyes such as ultraviolet light.

If you think about it, if you have ability A and B that can enable you to perform several activities but ability B helps you get the job done better and at at specific times than ability A would, then the best course of action would be to use ability B more. In this case, ability A is vision and ability B is echolocation. The risks from predators that bats can face from hunting by day are much higher than they would be exposed to if they fly by night. In addition, echolocation is more accurate in the case of bats and it enables them to hunt better than they would while using vision alone.

In most cases, bats use both echolocation and vision to navigate and find their way around. The only reason why bats prefer to come out by night is because their echolocation works better in the dark than in the day. This does not mean that it doesn't work during the day; on the contrary, the clicking sounds that can be heard while they are using echolocation in the night can still be discernible during the day.

The whole bats being blind myth came from the idea that they only use echolocation to get around, hunt and feed. This may be true but it only captures half of that story and leaves out the half where the bats are adapted to their nocturnal lifestyle because they can and because its safer for them. Moreover, bats can see better than human beings in the night as well. This is because their eyes can get used to the low to no light conditions in the night and can also improve the bats' ability to see and move in the cover of darkness.

With that information in hand, it is quite obvious that for decades we have been misled into believing in the blindness of bats when all this while these animals are actually better than we, human beings, in terms of vision. As a matter of fact, the next time someone calls you blind as a bat, take the compliment and run!
