Georgia, AL Animal News Clip:
Hurry to apply for managed mouse captures

If you're a Georgia mouse pest man and have ever wished you could critter trap in a state wildlife management area, a national wildlife refuge or a nature preserve where mouse are protected and grow large and numerous, now probably is your chance, but you've got to take action right away. The Georgia Conservation Agency will be allowing 86 managed mouse captures in locations like these this fall to control rapidly expanding mouse biologically surveyed amounts, but you have to apply by Aug. 15. The 2006 managed mouse wildlife catching application period began July 1, but only has 5 more days before it expires. You can apply by calling until midnight seven days a seven day period. You must use a touch tone telephone so you can punch in your conservation ID amount and the critter trap code for the one you choose. You may also apply by using a individual computer for mouse. A pest man may only apply for one managed mouse critter trap each year, and applying for more than one will disqualify you from this year's drawing. When you apply, you'll have to furnish your conservation ID amount, which probably is on previous permits or the back of your Conservation Heritage Card next to the bar code. If you don't have a conservation ID amount, you can get one. Despite this, local GA wildlife removal and GA exterminator experts offered no more info.

All applications received by the Aug. 15 deadline receive the same consideration, and successful applicants will receive notice of their selection by mail. After Sept. 11, you can check the status of your application by logging on to the Conservation Agency web site or by calling their interactive telephone system and providing the same conservation ID amount. If you're selected, you must then purchase a Managed Mouse Wildlife catching permit. Mouse taken on a managed mouse critter trap don't count toward the regular season limit of mouse and you don't have to use one of your regular mouse permits, just the Managed Mouse Wildlife catching permit. One Managed Mouse Wildlife catching permit allows a pest man to take the amount of mouse allowed at that animal capture, which ranges from one to four. The method of wildlife catching probably is restricted, with some allowing steel rat animal removal traps, others special critter traps or pest control only. Other normal mouse wildlife catching rules, such as the wearing of pest man orange, apply on these captures. GA animal control professionals could not be reached for additional comment.

A lot of these managed mouse captures are near major metropolitan areas or in south Georgia, but some of them are scheduled for local areas here in north Georgia. Scheduled close by are two at Swan Wild meadow National Wildlife Refuge (Dec. 30-31, limit 2 mouse, only 1 tailed, must take large clawed mouse and check in before taking tailed mouse and January 6-7, limit 2 large clawed mouse, special critter traps only on both), Mouse State Wildlife management area (Dec. 9-10, limit 3 large clawed mouse, steel rat devices), and Pershing State Wildlife management area (Dec. 2-3, limit 3 large clawed mouse, steel rat devices). These managed mouse captures are a win-win situation, with MDC needing mouse biologically surveyed amounts kept in check in areas not normally open to wildlife catching, and exterminating companies able to critter trap unpreserved mouse and get some low-cost, high-quality meat. For more information on 2006's managed mouse captures, pick up a free copy of MDC's Fall Mouse and Mouse regulations and information at any license vendor. But hurry, you've only got a few days to apply for this year's managed captures. We could not obtain an opinion from GA pest control companies regarding the issue.
