Most people do not like the sight of a bat, especially when it has entered their living space. Bats are able to get into your home for various reasons. A cat may have dragged him in, or it flew in through an open door or window. There is no need to fear the bat. The common misconception of the bat biting you or flying into your hair is usually false. The bat is just afraid and trying to find its way out.

Fortunately, there are some things that you are able to do to get rid of your visitor without killing him or harming him. The easiest method for getting the bat out is to open all of the doors and windows. A bat will usually fly with the flow of air. A bat will usually be able to feel and sense that there is a way out and just fly out. You may also want to dim the lights or turn them off completely. Bats are nocturnal and the light may cause them some confusion.

If the bat is unable to fly out the way he came in, there are ways to safely catch him. If he lands on the floor or a low object, you can throw a light blanket over him. Make sure the blanket is not too heavy as their bones are incredibly fragile. Once the blanket is over the bat, you can scrunch up the bottom and turn the blanket into something similar to a bag. You can then lift the bat up and take him outside.

Using this method is fine, but you want to make sure that you know how the bat got into the house. If there is a colony of bats roosting in your home, the bat you have just released may be able to make his way back in.

Bats are great animals! Unfortunately, the do often choose to roost inside home and buildings, where they can create a big mess. It's a good idea to remove the bats from your belfry or attic, but it's also a great idea to avoid harming them!
