There’s a Pigeon in my Attic!
Pigeons have the ability to roost in numerous locations. Some have found their way in the attic of homes. Pigeons can create a lot of damage to someone’s home, and can be incredibly expensive to repair. Their droppings are able to cause major issues to your home heating and air conditioning units, as well as your electrical systems.
Pigeons have also carry ticks, fleas, mites and diseases. It is important to get your new houseguests out of your attic as soon as you discover them. You should complete these using safe and humane methods.
When in the process of getting rid of pigeons, you should keep in mind that pigeons are very intelligent and have a very strong desire to always remain to their home. Their home may include your attic. If you are able to reach the pigeon, they are easily captured in the dark. You should never attempt to catch a pigeon without first wearing protective leather gloves. If you do catch the pigeon, you can relocate them to any location that you wish, but they will eventually find their way back to your attic.
If you are uncomfortable using chemicals in your home to deter the pigeons, you may want to consider using spices. Pigeons do not like the taste or smell of spices at all. These spices can consist of pepper, cinnamon, cayenne pepper, and so forth. You will need to place these spices where you have found your pigeons roosting. You will need to sprinkle the spices generously and will need to repeat the process if it rains, or the spices lose their potency with time.
You should review your attic to see how the pigeons are getting in. Once you have found their point of entry, you should install a screen to stop them and others from flying into your home.
The most commonly dealt with bird problem in the US is that of pigeons roosting on buildings. Feral pigeons tend to live in urban areas, and they prefer to roost on and in buildings, where they leave nesting material, feathers, parasites, and
worst of all, their unsanitary and corrosive droppings. The only way to
permanently solve such problems is to install bird exclusion materials, such as bird spikes or netting. Bird trapping is also an option, but it's usually a poor and temporary
fix. In addition to pigeons, other birds can cause problems in certain other situations: woodpeckers damaging houses, sparrows stuck inside retail spaces, Chimney Swifts nesting inside chimneys, etc.
