Pigeon Removal
If you live in an area that is considered urban, you have no doubt seen a lot of pigeons walking around and roosting in your area. Pigeons have learned how to adapt to almost any habitat they are in. This includes homes, warehouse, stores, stairwells, and so forth. Pigeons make noise, damage property and are usually an annoyance to most. If pigeons have decided to nest inside your home or building, their nests can clog up vents and drains. Their droppings can also wreak havoc on your air conditioning and heating systems.
You will need to complete a thorough inspection of your property. Pay close attention to the roofs and eaves to find if pigeons are nesting. Once you have found their nests, you will need to destroy them. Pigeons have a strong desire to return to their home, so destroying the nests are not enough. You will need to cover up areas where they are commonly nesting. You should also search for nests every few weeks and destroy them as soon as you find them. This may be enough to discourage them from returning.
Scare tactics such as rubber snakes, plastic hawks, and scarecrows may also help. Pigeons are so intelligent that you will need to find decoys that move and make noise, or you will need to move the decoys every few days. This will continue to confuse the pigeons and make them nest elsewhere.
You should make sure that you have no standing water or food available on your property. Once you dry up the water and get rid of the seed, you are making your location less friendly for the pigeons to live.
Other methods include trapping the pigeons, installing plastic spike strips or contacting a professional animal control company. No matter which method you select, you should never destroy the pigeons.
The most commonly dealt with bird problem in the US is that of pigeons roosting on buildings. Feral pigeons tend to live in urban areas, and they prefer to roost on and in buildings, where they leave nesting material, feathers, parasites, and
worst of all, their unsanitary and corrosive droppings. The only way to
permanently solve such problems is to install bird exclusion materials, such as bird spikes or netting. Bird trapping is also an option, but it's usually a poor and temporary
fix. In addition to pigeons, other birds can cause problems in certain other situations: woodpeckers damaging houses, sparrows stuck inside retail spaces, Chimney Swifts nesting inside chimneys, etc.
