I commonly extract dead animal carcasses from homes and property. The very animals that commonly invade houses die inside houses, and when they do, they create a very unpleasant odor as the carcass decays. The successful removal of deceased wildlife definitely requires experience and knowledge of building architecture and animal behavior. I've cut and pried open every nook and cranny imaginable to locate and remove rotting critter bodies. Squirrel in the attic - In my years of experience as an animal carcass removal expert, I have observed that almost all kinds of wildlife animals entering people’s homes have a preference for attics. Maybe it is the fact that attics are less commonly used than other rooms in the house and for animals like squirrels, they are just easy to access especially if there is a tree right outside the attic window.

Such was the case with the little fellow I’m holding in the picture. It probably entered the house in search of food and ended up losing its life right there. At the time when this picture was taken, it had already been several days since the squirrel had been dead and the attic was filled with the unpleasant smell of decomposition. The pieces of carpeting that you can see on the squirrel’s body make it visible that the carcass got stuck to the flooring as it went through the decay process. It can also mean that the squirrel died in that spot because it was stuck to the attic flooring and could not move to save its life.

To start the removal process, I had to cut off the piece of carpeting where the squirrel was found dead. A little word of advice here would be to remove the entire carpeting if you ever come across any such incident at your place since carpets can absorb the stench, making it virtually impossible to deodorize the place. Moreover, germs, parasites and maggots in the carcass can easily breed within the fine fabric of the carpeting, converting your attic into an unsanitary cesspool. By removing the carpet, it becomes infinitely much easier to disinfect and deodorize the place. Additionally, make sure that your windows are tightly shut as squirrels and other such rodents are agile enough to slide through the smallest of cracks.
