I commonly extract dead animal carcasses from homes and property. The very animals that commonly invade houses die inside houses, and when they do, they create a very unpleasant odor as the carcass decays.
The successful removal of deceased wildlife definitely requires experience and knowledge of building architecture and animal behavior. I've cut and pried open every nook and cranny imaginable to locate and remove
rotting critter bodies. I am the best - I always find the animal, deodorize and decontaminate the area, and seal up the hole I've cut open. If you want to learn more, please read my How To Get Rid of Dead Animals page.
My day at work with an electrocuted raccoon - Dealing with dead animals and locating their carcasses from people’s home is something I do on a daily basis. Although it may gross out some people, I love my job because there is never a dull moment and just when you think you have seen it all, there comes the curious case of an electrocuted raccoon! Now you can imagine how horrible the smell of a decaying animal is. Combine that with the not so pleasant odor of burning and you have possibly the worst smelling animal carcass of all times.
This is pretty much the basic description of how it felt being in the house where this raccoon was electrocuted. With the surrounding area engulfed in the foul smell, it was time for some action. I soon discovered that the raccoon met its fate after walking into an air handler, which was pretty bad news because it meant that its rotten stench had reached every room through the vents. For those of you who have vents installed in their homes, it would be a good idea to get them checked from inside every once in a while because they can allow these animals to enter your home.
I got to the job by first making sure that the dead raccoon was safely removed and disposed off. Next, I disinfected the entire area to cleanse it off parasites, insects and germs that animal carcasses are sure to attract. I followed it up by deodorizing the air handler as well as the vents to get rid of the unpleasant odor and make it easier for everyone to breathe again.
The last step of this particular job was to locate the possible entry point for the unwelcome intruder. This is something that I consider as important as carcass removal itself as it helps prevents the occurrence of any such incidents in the future.
