for no good reason.

Brown Water snakes are large snakes that are unlike other snakes as they are active both during the day and in the evening. Water snakes can often be found basking on rocks, logs or tree stumps trying to warm up in the sun. These reptiles will usually hunt during the day along the edge of the water. They often feed on small fish, worms, frogs, crayfish, leeches, small birds and salamanders. In the evening, they usually feed on minnows and smaller fish that sleep in shallow waters.
The water snake will usually wait in shallow water until their prey passes within a few inches of their open mouths. They will then snap their jaw around them and swallow them. These reptiles contain a toxin that prohibits the clotting of their prey’s blood. This allows them to follow a trail of blood should their prey escape.
Water snakes are incredible climbers and can sometimes be found basking on the tops of trees. Water snakes are known to fall into boats that pass by. However, they prefer to be in the water while they are hunting for their prey.
Water snakes have numerous predators such as raccoons, birds, foxes, turtles and other snakes. A water snake will viciously defend themselves against predators if they feel they are threatened. They will emit a foul smelling liquid, as well as deliver repeated bites. Water snakes are known for their aggressive behavior if they feel they are going to be attacked. Due to their behavior, water snakes are not recommended as house pets.
Many water snakes are killed by people as they are often confused with the dangerous cottonmouth snake. These snakes have distinct differences and should not be killed because of someone’s confusion. Water snakes are extremely abundant and are one of the most encountered reptiles while near the water.

I love spotting rare snakes in Florida. I also have a thing for venomous snakes - they're not too common in FL, so I always enjoy the chance to see a poisonous serpent. I really like snakes, and I've never hurt or killed one. They're an
