There are so many species of birds to be found
around the country, and because they live above
people in the sky for most of their lives, they
are often overlooked as a potential nuisance
animal. The difference here will come when people
start to find birds moving into the attic of a
property or the roof area of a commercial
property, and these can then become a problem,
particularly if the birds in question are a roost
of pigeons. It is natural to want to get rid of
these animals, as cleaning up the large volume of
droppings is not a pleasant process, and with a
larger volume of numbers the amount of feces can
quickly build up.
Natural Repellents That Are Said To Repel
Birds
There are plenty of different foods and spices
around the home that are said to repel birds
naturally, and the facts behind these repellents
can vary in terms of the reasons they are said to
repel birds. One of the most common methods
mentioned is to create a fiery chili solution made
by chopping up jalapeno and other hot chilies and
then boiling these with water and vinegar to
create a fiery solution which can be sprayed over
the areas where the birds have been a problem.
Other items said to repel pigeons and other birds
include rice, while another solution is said to be
a mix of honey and water made into a sticky spray
which can be sprayed on to window sills and other
areas where the birds are landing.
Chemicals And Other Items Around The Home
Said To Get Rid Of Birds
Another home remedy often said to get rid of birds or to keeep away vultures
are chemicals found at home, and these will often
be ammonia or mothballs, which will then be placed
in bowls in the areas where the birds are a
problem. Other items said to help get rid of birds
are shiny surfaces, as the reflections from these
are said to disorientate the birds and make them
wary of predators. This can mean small mirrors,
shiny reflective gift wrap or old CDs can all be
hung in the areas where the birds are a nuisance.
How Effective Are These Repellents?
Most repellents that operate by scent will be
largely ineffective when dealing with birds, as
the attractions in the area around your home will
be a great draw to them than the unpleasant action
of the repellent will be. There are however some
of the home remedies that may help, including the
hanging of reflective surfaces where the birds are
a problem, and adding a sticky solution to landing
surfaces. Alternatively, homemade spikes and other
deterrents to place on window sills and other
areas can be quite effective at keeping birds
away.
How To Properly Deal With A Bird Problem
There are different ways to deal with a bird
problem depending on the area where the birds have
become a nuisance, as sometimes they will be able
to get into an attic or loft, while they can also
be a problem in the beams of open buildings such
as barns. If you have a bird nesting in the attic
or loft, the key here will be to find the access
point and use an exclusion funnel to allow the
bird out, but to prevent it from coming back in.
Where the birds are in a commercial or open
building, the best option will be to install
netting with a fine mesh to protect the upper area
of that building, which will prevent the birds
from getting back into that area of the building.
