We’re sorry to have to tell you this, but you're not actually allowed to kill Canada geese. In fact, that’s not strictly true, but you will need to have a hunting license in order to kill a Canada goose, and the deed will need to be done during hunting season too. These birds, much like a few other migratory birds, are covered by law, not just state, but federal. If you are looking to try and kill Canada geese outside of the open hunting season, you will need to apply for a permit, and you don't really have a great chance of being approved for that, unless you can provide well documented evidence that you have tried everything else that you can try to discourage these birds from using your land as their own personal playground. On top of that, you will need to prove that these birds are causing an actual threat to you, your home, your kids or pets, or the natural environment. With the exception of a few munched plants, there's a good chance you won't really be able to do that.
The only methods of lethal control you can take with Canada geese are legal hunting during the open season, or out of season hunting with a specially approved permit, or euthanasia/destruction of incubating eggs by an official, usually one who is employed by the government. You can't just pick up your gun and shoot one in the back yard whenever you feel like it.
