California is full of wildlife, including snakes, squirrels, raccoons, skunks, opossums, and more. Wildlife removal is a complex field. I recommend professional Tehachapi wildlife control services if you want to solve a critter problem legally and correctly. For example, we specialize in animals in the attic, which have broken into the house and almost always have a nest of baby animals. It is necessary to perform correct preventative repairs to keep pest animals a out of your house for good. We perform full building inspection, do the the repairs and we also offer attic decontamination if necessary. Rats and mice love to live in attics, and can chew wires or leave droppings. Some Tehachapi animals frequently enter homes, and correct removal is not a simple task.
DOG or CAT: If you need assistance with a domestic animal, such as a dog or a cat, you need to call your local
Kern County Animal Control
for assistance. They can help you out with issues such as stray dogs, stray cats, vaccinations, licenses,
pet adoption, lost pets, and more. If you have a wildlife problem, you can try calling the Kern County animal control, and see what they have to
say, but they will certainly not help you with a complex wildlife problem such as critters in your attic. They are a free government agency that
helps with dog and cat issues only.

Tehachapi Wildlife Tip:
How to tell difference between baby rat vs adult mouse
So, you wake up late one night and head to your kitchen to get a glass of water or a little snack and all of a sudden you notice that there is a rodent scurrying across your countertop. After being totally shocked, and maybe even letting out a rather feminine sounding scream, you start to realize that you have an issue with a rodent or rodents in your home.
Well your first thought may not be this, understanding what kind of rodent you just saw is extremely important. If you saw one that was at least 12 inches long, then you can be pretty sure that what you saw was an adult rat. That may mean that you only have the one or a few do most, and you can act accordingly to try to kill off this animal or animals.
However, if it was smaller in size, you may not know if you had an adult mouse or a baby rat. In this case, you are going to need to know what tells you the difference between the baby rat versus the adult mouse.
You may not think that this is really that big of a deal, but it actually is. If you are seeing adult mouse, then the likelihood is that this may be the only mouse inside your home. There may be some others, but this still could be a small number of mice that are residing inside your house.
However, if this is a baby rat, then that means that it is likely that there is a mother and father rat, and a bunch of other baby rats that are scurrying around your home. You can have an issue where you can have a dozen or more rats that are inside your house, which is something that nobody wants. So, how do you tell the difference.
It is true that it is easy to confuse them, but there are some things to tell you the difference. Both have long thin tails, and the features of the face and body shape are extremely similar to one another, making it difficult to differentiate. However, there are some ways to tell.
A mouse is usually much more slender than a rat is. A rat will have more girth to its body then you will find in the common mouse. The hair will also be an indicator to you. Mice usually have extremely short hair that looks fine. Rats usually have longer hair covering their body and that hair will look a lot more coarse in appearance.
If you look at the face of the animals, a rat will have a more prominent nose than a mouse does. It will easily be distinguishable to you. Mice also have smaller feet then rats do, their ears are smaller, and the face looks much more in proportion to the rest of the body then what you would see on a rat.
While these characteristics may not be easy to differentiate when you had a glimpse of one, if you took the information you saw and compared it to pictures of these rodents on the Internet you would clearly know which one you were looking at.
