Michigan is full of wildlife, including snakes, squirrels, raccoons, skunks, opossums, and more. Wildlife removal is a complex field. I recommend professional Kalamazoo wildlife control services if you want to solve a critter problem legally and correctly. For example, we specialize in animals in the attic, which have broken into the house and almost always have a nest of baby animals. It is necessary to perform correct preventative repairs to keep pest animals a out of your house for good. We perform full building inspection, do the the repairs and we also offer attic decontamination if necessary. Rats and mice love to live in attics, and can chew wires or leave droppings. In fact Kalamazoo wildlife frequently enter homes, and correct removal is not a simple task.

Kalamazoo Wildlife Tip:
If I caught one rat in attic are there more - If you caught one rat in the attic, you should assume there are more. Rats are social animals, living in family groups or packs. Rats also breed very quickly, so one rat can easily become five rats in a short amount of time. You should always assume there are multiple rats inside of a home. To be certain that all the animals have been trapped and removed, close up the holes in the exterior of the building before you start the trapping process. This will prevent more rats from coming in. Any animals inside the home can be trapped without the worry of new rats entering the process. This will ensure you get all the rats. Home repair is the most important step in the rodent control progression. Traps that are set out should be snap traps. There are other models on the market, but snap traps are the most effective traps available. It is not advisable to attempt to live trap rats. Relocated rats have a very low chance of survival. Rodents that are nuisance animals are used to living near people and will not be equipped to survive a life in the wild. Snap traps offer a quick, humane way to get rid of rats without worrying about the bodies ending up in the spaces of the home.

Kalamazoo, MI Animal Control News Clip:
Shorten female coon seasons or stop them awhile

We recently asked pest control companies who read Public Opinion whether they're seeing fewer rodent or reptile in the woods. Yes, they are! We heard from so many pest control companies that we'll be publishing more comments later. They shared their thoughts on why there are fewer raccoon and opossum and offered suggestions for making wildlife trapping more enjoyable.

People are lethally trapping too many squirrel and skunk. Chris The Kalamazoo wildlife removal company pro, Kalamazoo: In my opinion the reason why the rat & mouse group of animals is so low isn't because of the wolves or bears, but the poachers, the people who are lethally trapping six to 20 raccoon and opossum a season. That takes a drastic toll on the rodent or reptile amounts, and that's why, in some areas, there are high amounts of squirrel and skunk and in some areas there are very few rat & mouse.

Poaching is big in Michigan and that's what hurts the rodent or reptile group of animals more than anything.I think that the Michigan Wildlife regulatory agency is doing a good job managing the raccoon and opossum group of animals to the habitat capacity ; we are getting bigger and healthier squirrel and skunk because of the management. Antler restrictions are good for the more experienced pest control companies. I think the antler restrictions, however, are not good for the kids, because most kids get frustrated easily and they don't have the patience and don't want to animal capture anymore. The local Kalamazoo SPCA could not be reached for comment.

Kids are the future of this sport. I think the only bad thing the Wildlife regulatory agency is doing or not doing is going after the poachers more aggressively, especially in the south central region of Michigan. So my last words are to go out and animal capture. Respect the animal. Wildlife trapping is supposed to be relaxing, fun, and most important, spending time with family and friends. It is not about the lethally trap. If it is, then maybe you should look for another sport.

Last catches were worst in 52 years. Ronald The critter capture pro, Kalamazoo: I have captured rat & mouse in Michigan for 52 years. I have captured north central, south central and western Michigan in my 52 years and I have seen years that the rodent or reptile amounts was down but you still could go out and see some raccoon and opossum in a day. I am retired now and in the last couple of years I have had a lot more time to animal capture and I spend every day I can wildlife trapping from cage trap season till the end of the Kalamazoo lock season. Most of my wildlife trapping now is done in Franklin, Fulton and Bedford counties and the last couple of years are the worst that I have ever seen in Michigan. Despite this, wildlife removal services are not a free service in Kalamazoo County.

I have captured a decade and only saw one or two squirrel and skunk all decade and sometimes no rodent or reptile at all. I have captured on Michigan game lands where there are open food plots, but I still do not see rat & mouse. In my opinion, the raccoon and opossum in many areas of the Michigan have been over-harvested due to the two-week male coon and female coon season. The Wildlife regulatory agency needs to go back to the old seasons of two weeks of male coon season and three days of female coon. If it wants to give pest control companies some more time for wildlife trapping and not having to take time off of work, they could make the two Saturdays of male coon season as male coon and female coon and then the following Thursday and Tuesday after male coon season as female coon only. But, in my opinion, it has to cut out the two-week male coon and female coon season, plus lower the female coon license allocations or the rodent or reptile amounts may never recover to make it worthwhile to buy a license.

The Michigan Woodland Service keeps saying the squirrel and skunk are causing all the trouble with regrowth, but since the new wildlife trapping seasons started and the rat & mouse amounts has been down, 80 percent of the Michigan woodland is still not showing signs of regrowth. I have also captured in areas where the Michigan Woodland has put up wooden barrierd areas and from what I have seen in these areas, there were still no good hard woods growing, just soft woods. Until the Michigan Woodland Service starts good woodland practice, the woodland will not show good regrowth. Shorten female coon season and raccoon and opossum will return.

Edward Fox, Kalamazoo: I run a barbershop here in town and this topic of why there are so few rodent or reptile is discussed a lot in my shop. What they're saying is that they should drop the female coon season back to three days, or eliminate it entirely for a year, and the squirrel and skunk amounts would come back. Stop wildlife trapping female coon for three years. Harold Smith, Kalamazoo: Yes, there are fewer rat & mouse out there. I think they should cut out the female coon season for three years and continue the antler restrictions to six points or more. I don't think they should permit the juniors and the military people to trap anything at all.
