How to Get Rid of Coyotes

Although they look a lot like dogs and can be seen as quite cute, these creatures are far from that. They are a growing pain especially if they begin to start howling - due to the fact that they are nocturnal they howl at night.

There are ways to get rid of a Coyote which are safe for both you and the animal, this article will demonstrate just that.

Fences

One way to keep them out of the immediate vicinity is to ensure that you have a decent fence around the perimeter of your land. This is especially the case if you have livestock such as chickens in your garden. As long as there aren't any holes you should have too much of a problem. The fence in question though does need to be fairly big. 6 feet is the recommended height, with an apron that goes down 18 inches into the ground, as to. Stop them from digging underneath. This however doesn't always stop them and you may need to add an outward extension to the fence, and a roller so they can't climb over.

Trapping

This one is a bit of a grey area in some states. For example in the state of Illinois, there are laws which mean the trapping of Coyotes without government authority is illegal (due to the fact that they are furbearers) so before you go to this method ensure that it is legal/you have the right authority /permit to do so. However trapping isn't one of the best methods to get rid of the Coyotes, if anything it almost always results in death due to the fact that they are extremely territorial and will try to go back to where it came from (your property).

These result in no harm to the animals, or yourself, and ensure that the animal isn't going to a new location where it may end up dying due to it not knowing the location of a water source or food.
