Get Rid of Pigeons
If you reside in an urban area, you have probably been subjected to pigeons roosting in your area. Pigeons have learned to adapt to most habitats, this includes public locations. Warehouses and schools are often victims of roosting pigeons. Not only do they make noise, steal food and become an overall annoyance. They damage the surface of buildings, and even the paint on cars. If pigeons find their way into a building, their nests can clog up drains and vents. It is important to get rid of pigeons as soon as they are discovered.
You should review the property, especially the eaves and roofs to locate roosting pigeons. If you find pigeons nesting, you will need to remove their nests. Pigeons have a strong desire to return to their home, so once the nests have been destroyed, you will need to cover up the area. You will also need to check back frequently and destroy their new nests every couple of weeks.
You should install a scarecrow, rubber snake or plastic hawk in areas where you have found their nests. Pigeons are incredibly intelligent, so you should move your decoy every few days. If you do not, pigeons will eventually learn that the decoy is not real.
While you are inspecting your property for nests, you should also make sure that you dry up any standing water in the area. You should also make sure that there are no seeds, fruit, and bread and so on for a pigeon to feed on. The priority should be to make your location as unfriendly for pigeons as possible.
You can also set traps on your roof, install plastic spike strips and use a bird repellent to get rid of your pigeons. Make sure that you are using removal methods that are safe and humane. There is never a reason to destroy pigeons.
The most commonly dealt with bird problem in the US is that of pigeons roosting on buildings. Feral pigeons tend to live in urban areas, and they prefer to roost on and in buildings, where they leave nesting material, feathers, parasites, and
worst of all, their unsanitary and corrosive droppings. The only way to
permanently solve such problems is to install bird exclusion materials, such as bird spikes or netting. Bird trapping is also an option, but it's usually a poor and temporary
fix. In addition to pigeons, other birds can cause problems in certain other situations: woodpeckers damaging houses, sparrows stuck inside retail spaces, Chimney Swifts nesting inside chimneys, etc.
