In my job as a wildlife control operator, I usually deal with the same 8 types of animals: raccoons, squirrels, rats, opossums, armadillos, snakes, bats, and birds. However, from time to time I get a chance to handle an

The frog pool party - I am proud to say that I have worked with a good variety of animals, right from rodents to mammals to reptiles. But one thing missing from my portfolio for quite some time was some amphibian experience. Call it my luck, one day I got a call from a lady whose house pool was infested by frogs and since she was not fond of their leaping or croaking, she wanted them out of there. Now as you know I love to work with different types of animals, it did not even take me a second to say ‘I’ll be there’.
On reaching the house and looking at the crime scene, I first wanted to find out the spot where the frogs had entered from and repair it. It turned out that there was a hole in the pool screen that allowed the frogs to party in the pool. After taking care of the hole by patching it up, I turned my focus towards the other part of the job.
Although till that time I did not have any prior experience of handling frogs, my common sense told me to use a net to fish the frog out. Judging by the size of her pool, I decided to use a skimmer and it worked. As per the lady’s count, there were 44 frogs in the pool. Once I was through with cleansing the pool of the frogs, however, my count showed them to be 41. The lady suggested that I check the pool filters and she was right. The last three were hiding in there. This is how it looked liked once I got them all in the bucket.
After getting the job done, it was time to get paid and as per our agreement (with a little bit of negotiation on the rate per frog), the lady paid me $2 a frog. And that’s all there is to this croaky little story.
