Almost there ...just a little further..

Customer Raccoon Email: I have at least 3 raccoons living under my deck. I just hired a company to trap and remove them. They are using canned sardines to trap them. I have paid 350 upfront for 5 days for 3 traps each day. Since Monday, 5 raccoons and a cat have been trapped. Could I have drawn in other raccoons that may not have lived under my deck? I want to put ¼ inch wire fencing along the facing of the deck, make a right angle of it. Then frame w/ 1x4’s and 1x6’s, fill with rocks then put wire fencing overtop. On the side of the deck I will put 1x4s to the ground then put concrete blocks and then rocks. Do you think this will work? Is this a reasonable price? Is canned sardines the best bait for raccoons. What else could be used w/o trapping cats? Most of all, do all raccoons make a rucus upon getting trapped. The first 2 nights it was noisy and then last night I did not hear a sound. Is this possible? Do you think that 5 racoons have been trapped or do you think that it is 3. Should I mark the raccoons to make sure that they are not being released into the wild and then returning night after night? They are supposed be euthanized each day.Help, Sherry from Maryland

My Answer: Use marshmallows if you don't want to catch stray cats. As for price, I don't know. Your exclsion barrier plan sounds good.

The raccoon (Procyon lotor), is a common urban animal, and native to North America. Raccoons are easy to recognize, with a black mask and ringed tail, as seen in the above photo. Raccoons tend to weigh between 10-20 pounds as adults, and live an average of 5 years. They are mostly nocturnal, and are omnivores, and will often eat pet food or garbage. They have become very acclimated to living in cities and urban areas. They are very strong, excellent climbers, very intelligent, and they are very skilled with their hands, which causes them to commonly break into homes and attics, where they cause considerable damage, and they also destroy other property, and thus raccoons are considered pest animals by many people, which is why I remove them.
