Customer Raccoon Email: David - nice blog - and quite interesting! I think you're doing a wonderful service - I hope you do well! You haven't touched on disease in raccoons, and it would be wise for you to do so, both the raccoon
rabies and distemper as well as perhaps a few others. I can only hope you've had YOUR rabies shots - if not - you need to get it!!!!!!!
No doubt you've ran into both skunks/possums - another pair that get into
trouble. If I can be of any assistance, now or in the future, don't hesitate to contact me - I used to not just hunt/trap coon, but was also a
licensed nuisance animal trapper when I lived in southern Ontario, Canada. I now live in northern Ontario - and we have very few coons here - far too many larger predators, and not enough agriculture for them, so they're small here, and few/far between.
I see in the bottom/last picture you're a relatively young man - and I can only wish that you have a great
career - but DO get those rabis shots, David - and no fooling - especially if you're going to stay in this profession! You'll find that the 'domestic' work is perhaps more
lucrative than trapping for pelts in the south, but predator trapping for farmers may also be a potential for you - the coyote and to a lesser degree fox can raise havoc with smaller farm birds/animals.

My Answer: I am innoculated against rabies. And I do discuss raccoon diseases quite frequently here on my website. But as for a long and lucrative career, I'm afraid I won't have that.

The raccoon (Procyon lotor), is a common urban animal, and native to North America. Raccoons are easy to recognize, with a black mask and ringed tail, as seen in the above photo.
Raccoons tend to weigh between 10-20 pounds as adults, and live an average of 5 years. They are mostly nocturnal, and are omnivores, and will often eat pet food or garbage. They have
become very acclimated to living in cities and urban areas. They are very strong, excellent climbers, very intelligent, and they are very skilled with their hands, which causes them to
commonly break into homes and attics, where they cause considerable damage, and they also destroy other property, and thus raccoons
