So, you recently start to see some signs that make you think that a mole may be in your yard. The problem is that you're just not sure. The things you are seeing could potentially be a mole but you're not really sure if these are the kinds of signs to look for not. So, what are the things that will be signs of moles in your yard? Here are some things to look for.

Mounds of Dirt - moles like to dig holes in your yard that they turn into a den for themselves. This is a process where they use their very sharp front claws to dig at the soil so that they can then clear a pathway for them to start the tunneling process. These tunnels can go deep into the ground and head in directions so that there is an entryway and an emergency exit if the mole so desires. In fact, moles are known to have potentially a dozen different exits out of the tunnel system that they have created.

Of course, to be able to dig these tunnels the dirt has to go somewhere. The moles will clearly leave a sign that they have been digging tunnels, and this is found by mounds of dirt that are located near the entryways to their tunnel system. Here you will find volcano like mounds that circle around the edge of the entryway.

Just so you are aware, moles are not digging tunnels like they are starring in the next version of the Great Escape. They are not discreetly hiding dirt so that you would not be aware that they were digging these tunnels. The dirt will be visible and you will clearly know that a tunnel is being dug by a mole.

Insect Depopulation - another reason that moles are digging holes is so that they can locate insects below the surface. Moles are primarily looking for such things as beetles, grubs, and worms that are in the soil a few inches below the surface. While you may not notice that there is a decreased population in these insects, one way that you will surely know is after a rainstorm. Worms come to the surface after rain, but if you notice that this does not seem to be occurring anymore, then you may have an issue with moles.

What Happened to the Plants? - Besides eating bugs, moles will frequently dine on roots and other plants that they find in and around your property. If you notice that your vegetation seems to be on the decline, then it is likely that a mole or a group of moles are getting into your vegetation and making a meal out of it.

While these are not the only signs to look for, they are ones that will clearly indicate to you that you likely have a problem with these little burrowing creatures. Be alert and look for signs like this and you will have a clear idea of if you have a mold problem or not. For more information, you may want to click on one of these guides that I wrote:
