One of the most discouraging things that people can find in their home is that a wild animal has set up residence within their attic. Because of the fact that this room becomes a rather isolated portion of the home, primarily because it is used mostly for storage and is not easily accessible in the design of many homes, it makes for the ideal location for a wild animal, such as a bird, squirrel, bat, or raccoon to make its home in.



Clearly, you don't want an animal like this living in your attic and so you want to take steps to get it out. Most of these little critters that will get into your home pose a serious health risk because of the different viruses, bacteria, parasites, and other pathogens that they carry. This makes it imperative for you to know how to remove a wild animal that is in your attic.

First, you want to make sure that you do a thorough search outside of your home to find where the animal is getting into your house. What you will find is that there is likely to be a loose board, hole, crack, or other place that gives a small critter the opportunity to get through the wall and into your attic. Be sure that if you find one that you don't simply end your search. Make sure that you have looked to find every possible entryway that the animal is using.

Once you have found the entryway, what you will need to do is to attach a one-way exclusion funnel to the outside of your home where the animal is gaining access. The way that this funnel works is quite simple. At some point, the animal that is living inside your home will need to go out to forage for food. When it goes out through the location it is using to gain access into your home, it goes through the funnel and out the door at the end of it to the outside world.

Once outside, it is unable to get back in. This gives you the opportunity to get rid of this critter without having to take any kinds of risks to get it out of your home. You didn't have to come in direct contact with the animal, which could've posed a risk to you. You simply had to put up the funnel and let the animal do the rest of the work for you.

Once you are sure that the animal is out of your home, all you need to do now is to seal the place where it was gaining access into your attic. This can easily be done by putting such things as caulk and sealant in the area that was allowing for entry. Just as a precaution for you, it is a good idea to put steel wool inside the caulk to prevent the animal from being able to dig its way back into your house.
