Bats are able to eat up to 3000 insects each evening. This sometimes makes bats a welcome addition to a backyard. Bats will consume moths, flies, and mosquitoes. Bats will often reside in walls, attics, ceilings, roofs and between ceiling tiles. While bats are great for the ecosystem, their droppings can cause severe odor issues, damage to the home, and contamination to the heating and air conditioning units. A bat is able to produce more than its own weight in waste each month by several amounts.
Usually, one or two bats in your home got there accidentally. When bats find a place to roost, they are usually in a colony. A bat colony can range from one bat to several hundred bats. The longer the bats stay inside your home, the greater the chances are that they will breed. The larger the colony, the longer it will take to get them all to leave.
Simply closing off the holes in your home may not be enough to get rid of the colony. Bats will usually find another access point back into your home. Bats only need an opening the size of a dime to gain entry. You will need to carefully examine the exterior of your home to try to determine where the bats are coming in. Sometimes, this may require the assistance of a professional service. Once you have determined their access points, you will need to install an exclusion screen. This will allow the bats to easily fly out of your home, but not have the ability to fly back in.
Once you have determined all of the bats have left your residence, you should seal up or repair any holes that may allow them to come back in. Make sure all bats are gone before you seal up the opening so you do not trap any bats inside.
Bats are great animals! Unfortunately, the do often choose to roost inside home and buildings, where they can create a big mess. It's a good idea to remove the bats from your belfry or attic, but it's also a great idea to avoid
harming them! Any competent wildlife control expert should have the knowledge and expertise to safely and effectively remove an entire colony of bats from a house without harming or killing a single one. I know that I have a 100%
success rate with bat removal jobs, and I believe the list of companies that I've compiled in my directory is of similar quality. If you want to learn more, please read my How To Get Rid of Bats page.
