Connecticut is full of wildlife, including snakes, squirrels, raccoons, skunks, opossums, and more. Wildlife removal is a complex field. I recommend professional Hartford wildlife control services if you want to solve a critter problem legally and correctly. For example, we specialize in animals in the attic, which have broken into the house and almost always have a nest of baby animals. It is necessary to perform correct preventative repairs to keep pest animals a out of your house for good. We perform full building inspection, do the the repairs and we also offer attic decontamination if necessary. Rats and mice love to live in attics, and can chew wires or leave droppings. In fact Hartford wildlife frequently enter homes, and correct removal is not a simple task.

Hartford Wildlife Tip:
Why raccoons come and go in the attic - Raccoons are not like rats; if they are living in the attic, it is for shelter only. A rat will live in a home and rarely venture out. Most of the food a rat needs can be found around the home. For a raccoon, food around the home is likely, but this large critter is going to go out at night to see what it can find. Most raccoons in the home are females, and if they don't have a litter currently, they're waiting to give birth. You should listen for crying or chirping from multiple animals. If this is the case, consult your local laws to see if you can legally trap and remove the raccoons on your own. Most states don't allow this unless you have a special license. If you're still determined to do the project yourself, you're going to need a cage trap, some strong wire mesh, and hardware to attach the trap to the hole in your roof. The goal with trapping the raccoon is to get the animal as it is leaving the attic. Ideally, you'll attache the cage trap to the opening in the roof, closing off the gaps around it with the wire mesh. When you enter the attic, the raccoon should become frightened and bolt out of the attic and into the cage.

Wildlife - Mice and rats return to Hartford

Hartford has recently experienced a surge in the local rodent population. "Some have suggested that mice and rats are becoming more habituated to residential areas," a local pest control operator said. "They also shift frequently from one area to another, which can cause fluctuations in local sightings." Connecticut has an abundance of wildlife, and Hartford is no exception.

He added that the threat of mice and rats attacking humans is "quite low" but not impossible." There have been reports of mouse and rat attacks in other states," he said. "But our biggest concern is mice and rats attacking domestic pets such as dogs and cats. "As mice and rats become bolder the opportunity for an attack on humans increases." Although several species of wildlife roam Hartford, only a few, such as raccoons and skunks, are considered pest wildlife. But now it's time to contend with the rodents.

The PCO added that rats were not always a native Connecticut species. Heavy mice and rat sightings in the state began about 150 years ago. "They've been here long enough now to spread across the state and fill most of the available habitat," he said. "The mice and rat population in the state has remained fairly consistent." Connecticut and Granby, Simsbury, Avon, Canton, and Bloomfield also have many reptiles, and it's important to be able to identify Hartford snake species and mammals.

A local Nature Guy said pet owners should keep a watchful eye on their animals when they are outside during the evening hours. Residents should also avoid keeping pet or bird food on their properties. Bird feeders can attract small rodents, which can attract mice and rats. Fruit trees can also attract Mice and rats, he added. Remember to treat the wild animals of Hartford, Connecticut, with respect and care.
