Canada geese can be found in Mexico, the Atlantic and Pacific areas and in Canada along the Arctic Coast. During the summer seasons they spend a great deal of time in North America surrounding the northern parts. In those colder seasons, they fly to the south. They are considered large water birds that have a black head, long neck, white patches on their cheek, feathers on their breasts which can be a light cream, tan or grayish color and they have a black tail. These birds can range from 22 inches in size to 48 inches in size and can have a wingspan up to 15 inches.
Most people don't like the poop they leave behind.

A Canada geese meal plan may consist of corn, grasses, berries, succulents, seeds, sedges, small fish, aquatic vegetation, insects, legumes and more. Because of their wariness, they feel safer by feeding in open areas. This way they can see predators and any other potential danger coming. In fact, these creatures are so smart that they often take turns eating while another watches and alert everyone when danger presents itself. While they are less likely to harm a human, they can get very aggressive, especially if it's mating season. When they build their nests, they do it near water. These nests are built with leaves, mosses and/or twigs.
Why Are They There
If you reside near water or have a pond or lake of some sort on your property, you've probably seen a number of Canada geese meet there. It may not seem like a problem at first, but these feisty little animals will wear out their welcome very quickly. If they gather to meet their family there constantly they're probably wearing out your lawn as well. For them water means humans and humans mean free food. Not to mention, the open spaces gives them that feeling of safety.

How to Get Rid Of Canadian Geese
Trying to get rid of Canada geese can be a real pain in the rear end and if you're not careful and smart about it, you may find them attacking you. There are tons of products on the market that claim to effectively remove Canada geese from your property, but not only can these be pocket picking, but none of them can truly offer you long term guaranteed results. You have repellants, decoys, treatments for the lawn and more but many people find that the Canada geese are not the ones who will let you evict them easily. This leaves you with asking yourself the question “Is it possible to get Canada geese off of my lawn for good without hurting them?”
Canada Geese Fence
A Canada geese fence is certainly a solution but is it permanent? A fence can be set up 3 inches away from the water line at intervals of 4 ft. The fence doesn't have to be high so you can actually purchase stakes to use that are standard in size. When placing them in the ground you will need to leave part of it 3 inches above the ground. Take some commercial rope in the colors of yellow or white and tie it to each post. However, the rope needs to hang a bit between each of the posts but not touch the ground. About a foot off the ground is quite sufficient. Water birds will actually stay away from this area because water birds do not understand the idea of navigating over or under a rope.
They are already putting themselves in danger by being on land considering this is where they move the slowest. So, they certainly understand that trying to get around a rope can actually get them caught quickly. This can be effective for some time. However, the rope will eventually dry out and you will have to replace it which will cost you more money.
Traps and Transfer
Trapping and transferring geese to another location is actually the best way to effectively get them off your lawn and keep them off. With a trap, you don't have to worry about the bird or any other animals getting hurt. All you have to do is lure them inside the trap with something tasteful to them and the trap does everything else. Once you've caught them, you can remove them and take them to an open park with a waterfront. This way they'll still be able to feel safe. However, before you start planning your trapping foray, keep in mind that this may not be legal in your region; a licensed wildlife expert may be required. Also keep in mind that trapping the geese is not as easy as it may seem and there will need to be a lot of precautions taken before doing so.
Harassment Dogs
Yes, trained dogs, especially Border Collies, are great at harassing and intimidating Canadian Geese. Many wildlife experts have trained dogs, specializing in goose harassment.
Just let the dogs loose on the flock every day for a week or two, and eventually the geese get the hint and vacate the area, because they believe it's not a safe place.

How To Get Rid Of Canadian Geese In Your Yard
Canadian Geese are a familiar sight in many parks in the country. They can live in these parks for months while in some places they are simply making a quick stop on the way down south. We are used to seeing them in the parks, and we enjoy seeing them there, but that joy can turn into frustration when they are in your yard or anywhere else in your property for that matter. There are easy ways to get the Canadian goose out of your yard and the easiest of them is to scare them away.
You should know however that some of these birds can turn aggressive so you should never try to scare them away without a towel or another large cloth. If you do not want to do the scaring yourself then you can leave the job to man's best friend. Dogs are great in scaring the Canadian goose not only because they bark and chase, but in the case of some herding dogs they make a motion that will get all of them flying pretty quickly. Some dogs are even hired by towns and cities throughout the country to make sure that parks are clean from these flying pests.
How To Get Rid Of Canadian Geese On Your Pond
Let's face it; if you have a body of water on your property you are more likely to have Canadian geese in there as well. They are attracted to these bodies of water so when they see it from the sky they will see it as a welcoming sight. So how do you make sure that you keep a Canadian goose out of your pond? You can do so by installing a motion sensor by your pond that triggers a water system. This method is the most humane and effective way to get the geese out, because it works as a scarecrow.
Another benefit to this method is that it does not only keep the geese out, but it also works with other types of wildlife. Because the method only triggers water it is also sure to not hurt the wildlife you are trying to scare away. Some companies will sell something like a beacon that is placed in a pond. The beacon floats and when the geese arrive at night it will disturb them by repeatedly shining a light that does not let them sleep. This is a great method as well because it works with motion sensors, so they do not stay on all night.
How To Get Rid Of Canadian Geese On Your Property
The main thing whether the geese are in your pond or on your property is that you do not want them there. Just like you would on a pond you can also use the motion sensor sprinklers so that they get scared every time that they come down on your property. You can also use actual scarecrows in cases where you want to get them away from your dry land. A scarecrow can be anything from a brightly colored balloon to a replica of a predator that the Canadian goose can see from the sky before it ever comes close to landing in your property. If you get a replica of a coyote for example that the goose can see from the sky, it will discourage a landing. It is not difficult to get these decoys or replicas. Many are sold in home and garden stores as well as in some hunting stores. Make sure that where ever you decide to place your scarecrow that the geese can see it from the air. In other words, if the goose does not see it, then the decoy will not be effective.
How To Get Rid Of Canadian Geese Naturally
If you want to get rid of the Canadian goose in a natural way, then here are a few do's and don'ts that you should keep in mind. The first thing that you should not do is to feed them. Make sure that everyone in the house follows and understands this rule, because if anyone decides to feed the geese then they will keep coming back for more. If at all possible take away the water resources that the goose may have found in your property. These include small ponds or fountains if at all possible.
It may not always be possible to dry these water incentives, but if it is at all possible, then you should have it done. You can also plant more vegetation on your yard or where ever it is that the geese are using as a home. The more vegetation the less likely geese will like your property. Geese prefer open spaces which you can take away by getting more plants and bushes in your property. If this doesn't work for you it may be time to employ a canine or to call a wildlife expert.
