Humanely Remove Bats from the Attic -
A colony of bats will often reside in an attic because it meets all of their qualifications. The area is high off the ground and provides a small entry access. This protects bats from predators that eat them and their babies. Attics are also usually dark, warm and dry. These are also important factors for a bat.
As soon as you discover the colony of bats, you will need to get rid of them as soon as possible. The longer the bats remain in your attic roosting, the more difficult it may be to get them out. You need to search your home and determine how they are getting in. This will be a challenge as they only need a dime size opening. However, you can make the search a little easier by following their droppings and searching for the brown stain their fur leaves behind.
Once you have determined the opening, you will need to install an exclusion screen. Do not just seal up the opening. This will cause the bats to be trapped in the attic and cause them to die. Bats are a protected species and should not be harmed. Once you have installed the exclusion screen, you should leave it in place for a few weeks to make sure all of the bats have left.
Once you have confirmed the entire colony has exited, only then are you able to permanently seal up the opening. You can use cement, rocks, stone, insulation, or caulk to seal up the openings. You also want to make sure that there are no other openings that will allow them to get in. Sometimes, homeowner’s will need to install a chimney cap to prevent them from entry through the top of the chimney. Aside from enlisting the help of a professional, this is the safest and most humane way to get the bats out of your attic.
Bats are great animals! Unfortunately, the do often choose to roost inside home and buildings, where they can create a big mess. It's a good idea to remove the bats from your belfry or attic, but it's also a great idea to avoid
harming them! Any competent wildlife control expert should have the knowledge and expertise to safely and effectively remove an entire colony of bats from a house without harming or killing a single one. I know that I have a 100%
success rate with bat removal jobs, and I believe the list of companies that I've compiled in my directory is of similar quality. If you want to learn more, please read my How To Get Rid of Bats page.
